Laucala Island, the luxurious private island located in the Fijian Pacific archipelago, is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Nilsson as Managing Director.

Peter is a seasoned Swedish hospitality executive with 25 years of experience in leadership roles at luxury hotels and resorts in Asia, Indian Ocean, western and eastern Europe and on-board ocean-going cruise ships.

He joins Laucala from the Ritz-Carlton hotel company in Malaysia and has held positions of General Manager, Group General Manager and Managing Director at leading international hospitality chains such as Soneva’s prestigious Six Senses Group, Hilton Worldwide under the Conrad brand, Centara Hotels & Resorts flagship resort in Hua Hin, Thailand and Anantara Hotels and Resorts.

Throughout his career, he has received various prestigious awards and recognition for his contributions and achievements.

Peter describes himself as an ‘island aficionado’ and has lived and worked in and around some of the most beautiful beach destinations and resorts of the world. In his spare time he enjoys travelling extensively discovering new cultures, photography, scuba diving, marine biology and alpine skiing.

NEW EXECUTIVE CULINARY TEAM AT LAUCALA ISLAND

Peter Nilsson’s arrival coincides with a newly assembled executive culinary team with an exciting blend of nationalities and talents, invigorated energies and fresh input.

Laucala’s new Executive Chef – Australian born Michael McCalman has spent an impressive 25 years working in the hotel industry notching up multiple countries and continents in the process.

For the past 2 years he has called the Maldives home where he was most recently Executive Chef at Shangri-la Villingili Resort and Spa. Fiji will be his 89th country and we have a feeling there will be many more to come!

McCalman enthused “I’m excited to bring guests bespoke meals based on their expectations, staying true to “Farm to table” by utilizing our exclusive Hydroponic nurseries, wide array of fruit trees and free range livestock including our own wagyu cattle, piggery, chickens, quail and ducks. ”

Assisted by additional team members that McCalman has brought in, over the next 6 months a revamp of Laucala’s iconic Beach Bar and Seagrass restautants is planned.

Their combined passion, international experience, the freedom of flexibility and the call for creativity will be put towards creating a fusion of traditional local cuisine using local products guaranteed to surprise and delight Laucala’s guests.

McCalman added “I’m very excited to work with some truly passionate department heads that manage these areas, and share my own knowledge with them. Surrounded by pristine waters, we also have an amazing array of local seafood. Working together with local village fishermen, I look forward to showcasing the amazing product from these blue waters.”

Laucala Island, owned by Austrian businessman Dietrich Mateschitz, co-founder of the Red Bull energy drink company, is an all-inclusive private island consisting of 25 villas, five restaurants and bars, a private airport, 18-hole championship golf course, 8 horses, a fleet of 14 marine vessels and a world-renowned spa; the only private island in the world to encompass such facilities.

For any stay from the 16th December 2018 to the 16th January 2019 a minimum of 7 nights is required.

Laucala Island Resort operates its own airstrip and King Air B200 aircraft, flying guests to and from Nadi International Airport in 50 minute
