On Sunday 27 September, Australian travel group helloworld is marking United Nations World Tourism Day with the #helloworldRELAY – a world-first social media initiative. Commencing in Samoa, the westernmost point of the planet at sunrise, and finishing at sunset in the Cook Islands, the helloworld Relay will showcase countries, cities, people and places, through the inspiring images captured on a single day around our incredible planet.
Significantly, in the 12 hours between Oman’s sunrise and sunset on the 27th, Australia’s first professional Instagrammer and social media influencer – Lauren Bath – will be broadcasting the breath-taking moments she encounters as she explores the Sultanate. With the local time difference, Lauren’s Instagram posts from Oman will commence from about midday (AEST) on the 27th.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be part of helloworld’s innovative Instagram Relay on World Tourism Day, and delighted that the stars have aligned for Lauren Bath to be our celebrity Instagrammer. We have been admirers of her gorgeous imagery for some time and we look forward to seeing how she captures the beauty and diversity of Oman and its people. Lauren’s images will be showcased to her 427,000 Instagram followers, as well as helloworld’s enormous social media and customer audiences, inspiring them to plan a holiday to Oman. And with 5 million Australians checking into Instagram every month, the Relay offers a tremendous opportunity to bring the stories of Oman to life’, says Mona Tannous, Sultanate of Oman Tourism’s Country Manager – Australia & New Zealand.
Lauren Bath enjoys a global profile as a social media influencer, and has had her eye on Oman for a long time.
“Oman has long been a bucket list destination for me so when I started working with helloworld it was one of a handful of destinations I begged to visit. When Oman became my Relay destination I was beyond thrilled! The helloworld Relay is a one-of-a-kind initiative that will require influencers to work hard to capture lots of images over the course of 12 hours and I can’t think of a better place to do that than in Oman. I’m already envisioning a great variety of photographic opportunities as I explore the mountains, waterways, people, food and culture of this amazing country”, explains Ms Bath.
After the Relay, Ms Bath will continue to explore and showcase the wonders of Oman until the 1st of October with representatives from the Ministry of Tourism. Her journey can be followed on Instagram at @Laurenepbath.
