Furthermore, to properly toast Le Bristol’s 90th anniversary, Maxime Hoerth, Head Barman and a Best Craftsman of France, designed the anniversary cocktail—a subtle reinterpretation of the famous Old Fashioned that was closely associated with the Prohibition era.
His version of the Old Fashioned blends the elegance of 30-year-old XO Eugenie Cognac, from the artisanal house of Guy Lheraud, a dash of bitter licorice and orange-tangerine, an extraordinary syrup made with tobacco-leaf-infused Grand Cru champagne. The masculine Old Fashioned blends with the feminine ingredients of a Champagne Cocktail to exemplify the androgyny of the Roaring Twenties. Even the presentation, a composition of dried tobacco leaves and sweet cherries marinated in Dubonnet and Byrrh, illustrates this delicious ambivalence.
A year that was also about cocktails and the birth of Art Deco in Paris, 1925 would shine throughout the world in the wake of the famous Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts.
