Multi-award-winning Tekapo Springs has cemented its position as one of the South Island’s top tourism operators taking out the title of best business in the tourism industry category at the 2013 South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce Awards in Timaru last night (August 30 2013).

The leading tourism company, which also won the Supreme Award in 2010 and has a number of other accolades under its belt, pipped a number of other tourism heavyweights to the post to take out the prestigious title.

Tekapo Springs General Manager Cathy Hemsworth accepted the award with the rest of the management staff on behalf of “our amazing team” and said she was “over the moon” with the achievement.

“The team and owner Karl Burtscher have dedicated our time over the last few years to ensure we offer the best customer experience we can and it’s certainly paid off,” Mrs Hemsworth said.

“We take our social responsibility very seriously and constantly strive to find new ways to help the environment and support our local economy.

“However it’s our team that is the cornerstone of our business and without them we wouldn’t receive the outstanding feedback we do.

“We’ve spent a number of years growing and developing the business, our offerings and streamlining our processes. It’s wonderful to receive recognition for all the hard work and dedication.”

Tekapo Springs is nestled on the banks of Lake Tekapo in the South Island of New Zealand and offers visitors year-round family fun and relaxation including three outdoor hot pools, an outdoor ice rink, a summer/snow tube park, day spa, brand-new water slide and licensed café.

The award win coincides with the unveiling of Tekapo Springs’ new summer attraction, The Trippo Slide – the world’s largest inflatable water slide.

The oversized slide, with three slide chutes, spans an impressive 11 metres (36 feet) high and 53 metres (175 feet) in length and will be located on Tekapo Springs’ outdoor skating rink during the summer season from November 1 2013.

Tekapo Springs is a Qualmark rated activity and has Enviro Gold status for its commitment to protecting the environment for future generations.
