On Tuesday 24 November join us at the Shrine of Remembrance for a special performance, ‘Letters to Evie’.
Letters to Evie is a theatrical reading of letters written to VAD nurse Evie Percy from the sailing of troopships from Melbourne in 1914 to the end of the war in 1918. 100 years on, Evie’s granddaughter Penny Gutteridge brought the letters, postcards, and photographs that her grandmother received back to life, honouring both the men that served and Evie, who became their confidant. The letters are a mixture of humour and honesty which at times become bitter and cynical. They are a portrayal of the strength of friendship in a time of great upheaval and change.
The performance was compiled and edited by Penny, and is performed by Graeme Russell and Rachael Tidd.
Penny Gutterridge is available for interview.
