The Singleton of Glen Ord today unveiled in Hong Kong The Singleton of Glen Ord 38 Year Old, a limited edition single malt whisky marking the 175thanniversary of the Glen Ord Distillery and ideal for celebrating the arrival of autumn.

The Singleton 38YO_resizedThis liquid of the finest quality is produced in The Singleton Master’s Casks, a number of hand-selected casks filled at least 38 years ago, to create a perfect balance between rare old whisky from European Oak casks and American Oak casks. The result is a limited edition of 360 precious bottles of The Singleton of Glen Ord 38 Year Old presented worldwide, with 56 bottles specially reserved for the Hong Kong market.

The Singleton of Glen Ord 38 Year Old is a labour of love for Maureen Robinson, one of the most respected malt masters in Scotland with a legendary sense for the subtlest notes in fine whisky. Not only are The Singleton Master’s Casks hand-selected by Robinson from the finest old casks of The Singleton of Glen Ord, they were all distilled in the year she entered the whisky profession – making it doubly meaningful. All the casks chosen for this special edition feature a distinctive round and mellow nature, but also retain the vitality and grip of the young whisky. Consequently, whisky enthusiasts can taste both the great wisdom these casks have today and the enthusiastic innocence of their youth.

Perfectly balanced and naturally rich, The Singleton of Glen Ord 38 Year Old has a fruity aroma of apples and pears and rounded flavours with strong hints of old sherry wood, complete with a subtle smoky aftertaste. The precious liquid has a deep amber hue. It is smooth on the palate, leaving a pleasingly luxurious and lingering finish.

Since 1838, Glen Ord has remained dedicated to the traditional distilling techniques, using barley grown locally in the rich, dark earth of the Black Isle and the purest waters from rain and underground springs. Today, the distillery is one of the few in the world – and the only one in the Highlands – that continues to malt all its barley at its distillery. The idea is to ensure the top quality of the final product. The malt then undergoes prolonged fermentation for greater body and depth, followed by a slow, small batch copper pot distillation that gives a richer and smoother finish to the whisky. It is precisely this meticulous process that makes The Singleton of Glen Ord 38 Year Old the epitome of the remarkable essence of single malt whisky – and the perfect liquid for celebrating the 175th anniversary of the Glen Ord Distillery.

Each hand-finished bottle of The Singleton of Glen Ord 38 Year Old is numbered and presented in an exquisite oval box made of oak wood. Its unique shape is reminiscent of the smooth pebbles strewn along the trails next to Glen Ord’s distillery, leading to where the purest natural water can be collected. The pronounced, straight-grained pattern of the oak wood adds to a sense of solidity and timelessness, echoing the vitality of a fine whisky that stands the test of time. With only 56 bottles reserved for the Hong Kong market, The Singleton of Glen Ord 38 Year Old is available for purchase upon request.
