egtmedia59Asia’s first low cost airline headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia has conquered another milestone with the launch of Thai Lion Air. “The launch of Thai Lion Air will help stimulate and grow Thailand’s air passenger market and reinforce Bangkok’s position as a leading international air hub,” says Thai Lion Air CEO, Capt Darsito Hendro Seputro.

Thai Lion air, headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand will be flying its inaugural flight on December 4, from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The airline initially, will be offering 2 flights a day and the rates will be starting from a mind-blowing rate of *400 baht for one-way including 15 kg baggage!Thai Lion Aircraft at Boeing Field photo taken in Oct

Thai Lion Air already has two aircraft in Bangkok, both new 215-seat 737-900ERs – this airline is the newest and largest narrow body aircraft in the market, making Thai Lion Air the first to operate in Thailand.

. Thai Lion Air is to receive a third aircraft in March. The airline will use the third aircraft to increase services on existing routes and also launch new services such as Bangkok-Hat Yai and also Bangkok-Singapore after receiving permission and it is already in process of applying for international traffic rights. Thai Lion Air hopes to launch services in early December from picture at Airbus in France when Lion signed for 234 Airbus narrowbodiesBangkok Don Mueng to Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.

“The Bangkok-Jakarta route is currently under-served. Our research has shown there are too few flights on this route. Airlines operating between Jakarta and Bangkok are often booked out and charge relatively high fares. If flights are booked out, clearly there is demand so we are launching services to meet that demand,” says the Capt.

Thai Lion Air will be launching one-way fares between Bangkok and Jakarta starting from *1,500 baht and downloadBangkok to Kuala Lumpur starting from *200 baht. Darsito also says that Thailand and Indonesia are the two largest economies in ASEAN. Trade between the two countries is growing, so air services need to increase to help facilitate more trade and investment between the two nations.

When questioned about the pricing, the airline says, “Others may have short-term one-off promotions, but they are unable to sustain low fares for long periods whereas we can. We can provide consistently low fares because we manage our costs and the higher capacity 737-900ER is very efficient. It has about the same trip cost as a 180-download (1)seat Airbus A320, but the 737-900ER means we have an additional 35 seats.

The airline is also proud to announce that the airline offers some free frills that other low-cost carriers generally don’t – a free check-in baggage allowance of 15 kg!

Next year Thai Lion Air hopes to add 8 – 10 aircraft and in five years have a fleet of 50 aircraft. The Airline is positioned as a low-cost carrier and will deliver on its brand promise – with providing consumers consistently low fares and the “Freedom to Fly” when they want to.
