One World Hotel celebrated Chinese New Year and ushers in the Year of the Green Wooden Horse with a spectacular lion dance performance on Monday, 3 January 2014.

The 20-member lion dance troupe from the Malaysia Khuan Loke Dragon and Lion Dance Association kicked off the show with a series of acrobatic steps and stunts at the hotel’s driveway.

Prior to the main performance at the hotel driveway, four cheerful and energetic lions pranced and danced as they visited the administration offices, restaurants, function rooms and reception for the ritual blessings. The troupe then proceeded to the hotel entrance and performed a series of thrilling acrobatic steps and stunning performance on high stilts, moving in rhythmic unison to the beat of the roaring drums, cymbals and gongs in the air.

The performance culminated with the handing over of ‘platter of prosperity’ consisting mandarin oranges, pineapple, pomelos and green lettuce to the hotel’s director Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr.) Teo Soo Cheng and Dato’ Teo Chiang Hong.

‘Lion dance is an important symbol to signify the arrival of the Lunar Year and it is believed to bring good luck and prosperity. Since it’s opening in July 2007, the hotel host a session yearly to mark a great beginning of a flourishing year’, said Ms. Feryal Mufti, Public Relations Manager of the hotel.

Present to witness this symbolic occasion were the hotel’s management team, Mr. Ho Hoy Sum, the General Manager and hotel guests.

She also added that this event is definitely an eye opening experience for overseas guests as they are able to discover and witness an authentic and tradition like such. Having that said, they are bound to leave with a great memory and an interesting story to share. This is very much in-line with the Visit Malaysia 2014’s aim which portrayed the country as the place with wonders of events, festivals and activities all- year round.
