Local Businesses Urged to Help Promote Somerset In New Tourism Drive

Tourism team Visit Somerset today appealed for more local businesses to get involved in promoting themselves as well as the county.

The Official Destination Management Organisation for Somerset is setting its sights on greater county expansion as it works harder than ever to market Somerset’s special attributes. And the latest local firm to sign up to promote not only their own brand but the county it hails from is The Somerset Toiletry Company.

It is one of several major Somerset brands and organisations to join the Visit Somerset ranks, including Somerset County Council children’s service and several company’s within the county’s burgeoning food and drink industry.

Visit Somerset CEO John Turner said: “We are not just an advertising platform. We have to be multifaceted and multifunctional across all elements of our marketing strategy. We are well aware that we have possibly the largest digital platform in Somerset, with possibly some of the most innovative digital technology of any business.

“However, like any business, to survive we have to be completely relevant – on and offline – and have to prove to businesses investing in us, that we will generate positive returns for them.

“We still find that many businesses are not engaging as aggressively as they need to in the digital age and consumers in many cases are at least ten years ahead of businesses, which are still marketing themselves in traditional ways.

“This is where we have a strong presence and unique selling point now supporting businesses from many aspects of the regional economy. The variety of different members that we now have working with us is testament to the innovative way we work and helps in taking brands to market.

“I am thrilled with our latest member, The Somerset Toiletry Company, has joined us in an effort to create greater awareness in the localised and domestic markets, talking about their incredible toiletry product range, that I am incredibly proud to call a Somerset company with huge international reach.

“There are several key things that we offer above and beyond that are so critical, whilst delivering our digital capacity; ‘leadership, a plan, a sense of purpose and unrivalled enthusiasm that drives the team daily to achieve for the county’s business community.”

The Somerset Toiletry Company has been designing and manufacturing luxury bath and body products for nearly 20 years. The company produces its own branded toiletries, containing bespoke designs and formulations created in-house, as well as private label lines for leading retail groups across the world. It has a global reputation, selling products in more than 50 countries from it’s base in Clutton, with another office in Delray Beach, USA.

Company chairman Sakina Buoy said: “We are extremely excited about our new partnership with Visit Somerset. Following our first meeting it was clear we share the same level of passion for our beautiful county.

Next year Visit Somerset, through the Hinkley Tourism Action Partnership, will be promoting its new website with exciting features including a retail portal allowing members to sell their products online.
