Local Feros Care Cook Awarded “Hospitality Trainee Excellence” Award

Tracy BannermanWinner of the 2015 Northern Rivers Novaskill traineeship “Hospitality Trainee Excellence” award went to Tracy Bannerman who works at Feros Care Residential Village Byron Bay.

Ms Jennene Buckley, Feros Care CEO congratulated Tracy on receiving the Novaskill traineeship “Hospitality Trainee Excellence” award (on Friday 6 November 2015)

“Feros Care is passionate about providing the best care and support for seniors. To achieve this, we want our staff to be passionate about what they do – both at work and in life.

A key component of the Feros Care culture is to promote lifelong learning and to always develop the skills base of our workforce.

“Tracy epitomises the Feros culture of promoting lifelong learning and turning your passion into your career. She started working in domestic care with Feros, and in a chance conversation told Head Chef, Rick Stewart, how much she enjoyed cooking.

“This was the start of Tracy’s new and exciting career, and led to Feros working with local training provider – Novaskill – to develop an accredited Certificate III in Catering Operations that focusses on cooking skills specific to aged care.

“Tracy was one of the first students to complete this course and she just shone.

“Every day, Tracy serves up her skills and love of food for our residents to enjoy. This passion is so important because food is a highlight in the day for our residents. As a result, we only employ catering staff who are passionate about creating delicious and nutritious meals,” Ms Buckley said.

Feros Care invests in training and upskilling its staff across all business areas of the organisation. Catering staff are trained to be competent and confident in their daily jobs so they can offer authentic hotel services style catering in the Feros Care villages.

Tracy’s zeal for cooking is warmly welcomed by our residents – particularly when it comes to the cakes and biscuits she serves up for morning tea. As one resident said ‘Tracy’s morning teas are like going to a wedding, it’s the best morning tea ever!”

Tracy said “The training gave me the confidence to cook for our residents and taught me the right procedures and how to organise my time. I’m just so grateful to Feros Care for having faith in me.

“Every day I look for new and interesting things that residents love to eat. I love baking and the residents love their sweets, so it’s a perfect match,” said Tracy.
