Local Guide awarded best ‘new tourism business’

Wendy and Corrie’s Map of Airlie Beach was awarded the highest honour on Saturday night by winning the Whitsunday Tourism Award category for best “new tourism business”.


The guide was developed by Wendy Eriksson and Corrie Gardner, two local Whitsunday women, who created a colourful and informative insider’s guide to Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays. Along with the guide they have now designed a range of quality souvenirs including prints, cards, magnets and postcards which capture iconic places like Heart Reef, Whitehaven Beach and favourite sites in Airlie Beach. Corrie Gardner says, “our goal was to share our local knowledge and make everyone feel the same level of hospitality you feel when visiting friends. Our map adds value for visitors and gives them a local’s perspective on the town and also a quality souvenir to keep or pass on to other friends coming to visit. The guide helps visitors to maximise the quality of their Whitsunday experience. We would like to thank everyone who supported our venture and stocked our products in their shops and accommodation.”

The guide was a year in the making with original artwork by Wendy Eriksson and all content and information researched by Corrie Gardner. Ms Gardner said, “the Tourism Award process was very worthwhile for us to review our business model, our marketing and reflect on our first year in business. I would recommend it to any business as an excellent business planning tool. Congratulations to everyone who made the effort to submit an entry and made a commitment to peer review and our tourism industry”.
