A friendly atmosphere and a healthy working environment; an internationally branded hotel group that takes exceptionally good care of its employees and their families; extraordinary team spirit; superb staff training; good working conditions and plentiful opportunities for promotion. These are just some of the reasons why the staffs at InterContinental Bali Resort are so well liked by the guests, why they are so good at their jobs, and why they are so loyal to their employer.
“All staff members right from the bell boy to the front office staff and the restaurant staff were always ready to serve with a smile”.
“The service is outstanding”.
“Our butlers made our stay as close to perfection as possible”.
“The staffs are so helpful, they make you feel so welcome and can’t do enough for you”.
“I only spent one night in my Club Suite before I ended up in hospital with broken shoulder and ribs after I fell off a motor bike. The team at Club InterContinental made me feel so special when in hospital with daily visits, sometimes twice daily, with fruit, chocolates and Danish pastries. Nothing was too much trouble for my butler Wawan, he is an outstanding employee of some 17 years with the hotel”.
“The staff and management are so gracious and welcoming”.
“All of the staff were very kind, smiley, polite, willing to help with everything, I felt like a princess”.
“During my first morning at breakfast, I was asked by one of the service staff if I preferred coffee or tea. My reply was ‘cappuccino’ and he shortly returned with it, with my name written on the top with chocolate powder. I was amazed and asked how he knew my name. His reply… ‘I noticed your name on the conference name tag that you were wearing’. Kudos to him and the Resort’s management for the excellent training given to service staff”.
“The staffs are incredibly well-trained, attentive, courteous and friendly”.
“From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were made to feel like VIPs, taking the Balinese hospitality to another level. All of the staff were extremely warm and friendly, with everyone always greeting us with huge smiles and going the extra mile to ensure our visit was one to remember for the rest of our lives.”
With reviews like this on TripAdvisor, InterContinental Bali Resort is justifiable proud of its staff, many of whom are long-serving employees who have worked for the Resort ever since it opened its doors in October 1993. As the first luxury property of its kind to be built on the shores of the beautiful Jimbaran Bay, the number of eager job applicants way exceeded the quota, and the InterContinental Hotel Group was able to pick the cream of the crop, with a special emphasis on selecting employees from the Jimbaran area. For many staff members it has become a job for life – they have no desire to leave. Already more than one third of the total complement of staff has been working at the Resort for over 22 years, while well over half have been employed for 15 years or more.
One of the Resort’s longest serving staff members is a lady called Fatimah. Her work in Bali began in 1990 when she joined the Sang Yong construction company, which had been contracted to build InterContinental Bali Resort. With a very limited formal education in Java, Fatima had never learned to read and write but she was accepted for employment in the contractor’s office, doing everything from mopping and making tea to cleaning cars and painting roof tiles. When the pre-opening General Manager of InterContinental Bali Resort joined in mid 1992, Fatimah was given the additional tasks of cleaning the mock-up rooms and the management office, photocopying and running errands. In 1993, when the hotel started to recruit employees, Fatimah was invited to join InterContinental Bali Resort in the housekeeping department, cleaning the Executive Office and fulfilling the role of office girl, despite her illiteracy. Her Javanese politeness and her diligent, can-do attitude earned her the title of Best Employee of the Year in 1995, for which she was rewarded with a trip to Bangkok, staying at InterContinental Bangkok with her family. This ‘trip of a lifetime’ made her truly proud to be working for InterContinental Hotel Group. Today, she still fondly shares moments of her Bangkok trip with anyone who asks, but more than that, she is a loyal InterContinental Bali Resort employee who never stops reminding her colleagues to work from their hearts as if they were working in their own homes, because that is exactly what Fatima has been doing for the last 23 years.
