Lufthansa passengers in Hong Kong can now enjoy the experience of travelling aboard the A380, the world’s largest and most modern passenger jet.
From October 25, 2015, Lufthansa will be operating daily A380 flights from Hong Kong to Frankfurt. The aircraft accommodates a total of 509 passengers and will be configured with eight seats in First Class and 78 in Business Class, both located on the upper deck, 52 in Premium Economy and 371 in Economy. This represents a 20% increase in passenger capacity between Hong Kong and Lufthansa’s German destinations.
The A380 departs daily from Hong Kong for Frankfurt at 23:10hr, operating under flight number LH797, and arriving at 05:30hr the next day. The return flight, LH796, leaves its home base in Frankfurt at 22:15hr every day, and lands in Hong Kong at 16:55 the following day.
The A380 is one of the most environmentally friendly aircraft in the sky. It uses less fuel, produces very low noise emissions. The aircraft also offers passengers a cabin that is quieter and provides a sense of spaciousness.
Lufthansa’s famous First Class, located on the upper deck, has won recognition in the form of a 5-star Skytrax rating. The seats can be converted into a fully flat, two-metre long bed with intuitive controls, allowing passengers to find the perfect position whether they are sleeping, working or just relaxing.
The new stylish Business Class, with fully adjustable seats that are designed to ergonomically adapt to passengers’ bodies, offers the greatest possible freedom in both the sitting and reclining positions. Through the push of a button, the seat can be transformed into a comfortable bed with a horizontal reclining area of 1.98 metres in length.
The Premium Economy cabin at the front of the aircraft boasts new seats that offer up to 50% more space. Each has its own, broad armrest to allow for greater privacy. Other practical features around the seat include a bottle holder, a power socket and plenty of storage space for personal items.
Lufthansa will also offer passengers in its more comfort and space in the enhanced Economy Class cabin.
“At Lufthansa, we aim to offer passengers a superior flight experience that combines the convenient schedule with night flights to and from Germany, comfort, and the best in German hospitality,” said Malte Haut, Lufthansa General Manager Hong Kong, South China & Macau. “The deployment of the A380, the world’s largest passenger aircraft, together with our newest cabin products for all classes, demonstrates our commitment to offering our Hong Kong customers a true 21st century travel experience and furthers our goal of becoming the first 5-star airline in the western hemisphere.”
One step closer to that goal, Hong Kong Business Class passengers can now enjoy the new Lufthansa Restaurant Service on both Lufthansa flights to Munich and Frankfurt. The cabin crew will adapt their service more strongly to the rhythms of the passengers so to individually respond to the guests’ needs and requests just like a top-class restaurant. The table is set individually by the cabin crew and the food and drinks are served directly from the galley. In addition, passengers can choose from a dedicated menu from the award-winning Star Chef Nicholas Blair and Gao Xiaosheng from Shanghai’s Pudong Shangri-La.
Furthermore, a completely new entertainment system has been installed with a wider range of audio and video contents available via the personal in-flight entertainment platform, “Lufthansa Media World”. New screens were also installed in the new seats to further enhance the inflight entertainment experience.
Passengers in all classes can stay connected onboard thanks to Lufthansa FlyNet®, the fast and reliable high-speed broadband internet connection[ii], and a direct access to the mobile network, which enables the sending of text messages or data synchronization via one’s own mobile devices. Mr. Haut added, “At Lufthansa we are proud to offer the best Lufthansa ever to our fans in Hong Kong. Good signs are observed through our booking systems, which is beyond our expectation. Germany is not only a popular destination for leisure travelers, but also Europe’s No. 1 trade partner of Hong Kong. Being the flagship carrier of the country, we hope to further contribute to the good relations between Hong Kong and Germany”.
Hong Kong is one of Lufthansa’s key international destinations. The airline has served Asia’s World City for more than 50 years.
