Starting from today, passengers can book flights on the flagship A380 into Lufthansa’s leading European hub Frankfurt. The inaugural daily A380 service will commence on 24 October from Frankfurt and on 25 October from Hong Kong.
“I’m very pleased to announce that we are bringing our A380 to Hong Kong late this fall. It’s a new milestone in the history of Lufthansa in Hong Kong, especially that Lufthansa has been connecting Hong Kong and Europe for more than 50 years. Also this is certainly a remarkable moment for Lufthansa’s longstanding presence throughout Asia. ” says Mr Malte Haut, Lufthansa General Manager Hong Kong, South China & Macau. “Hong Kong is one of Lufthansa’s key international markets and hence, Lufthansa will continue to invest in this important hub. With the deployment of our A380 into this market, it increases more than 20% capacity from Hong Kong to Europe,” Mr. Haut continues.
The Lufthansa A380 has 509 seats in a double deck design. It offers passengers generous sense of spaciousness by having the widest main deck cabin than any airliner in service today. At the same time, it is known to be one of the quietest cabins. The aircraft is equipped with Lufthansa’s newest four cabin products: First Class, which has been awarded 5 stars from international airline evaluation agency Skytrax, provides a more refreshing cabin environment with air humidification system, the first of its kind to be installed on a commercial aircraft; Business Class seats are extendable to 2-meter and 180° flat surfaces, adding comfort and stability; The newly introduced cabin, Premium Economy, offers 50% more space and twice the amount of baggage allowance compared to Economy Class; And also the ergonomically designed Economy Class seats provide more personal space with a slimmer seat back. Additionally, Lufthansa’s Wi-Fi service Flynet will be available for all compartments.
Lufthansa started the A380 operation on selected routes in 2010 and presently deploys 14 jumbos globally. Currently, the daily flight starting from Beijing, Shanghai to Frankfurt is operated by Lufthansa A380. Hong Kong will become the third destination of Lufthansa’s A380 in China. The Lufthansa A380 offers 509 seats totally, namely eight in First Class, 78 in Business Class, 52 in Premium Economy Class and 371 in Economy Class.
Lufthansa currently has daily flights from Hong Kong to Frankfurt and daily flights to its southern hub in Munich. Lufthansa Group Airline SWISS connects Hong Kong daily with its Zurich hub. All three flights are night departures from Hong Kong to Europe and vice versa. Both Frankfurt and Munich flights are already equipped with the latest cabin products. The new A380 service from Hong Kong will start with seven weekly flights as of 25 October. To reflect the needs and demands of Hong Kong and Chinese passengers, Lufthansa provides localized services featuring in-flight meals, flight attendants and entertainment.
