Lufthansa to fly to Aalborg and Reykjavík

Lufthansa is to expand its services in next year’s summer flight timetable. From 29 March 2015, the airline will be operating a new route from Frankfurt Airport to Aalborg in Jutland, Denmark, with 14 flights a week. The commercial and university city will be Lufthansa’s third destination in Denmark, after Copenhagen and Billund. The airline will also be launching a twice-weekly non-stop service between Frankfurt and Reykjavík, Iceland, from 2 May until 26 September 2015.

The Aalborg route will have two flights a day with a Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft, with 90 seats in Business and Economy Class. The service will depart from the Lufthansa hub every morning at 8.25 a.m. as flight LH 844 and every afternoon at 4.10 p.m. as flight LH 846, arriving in Aalborg at 10.05 a.m. and 5.50 p.m. respectively. The return flights will land in Frankfurt at 12.25 p.m. and 8.10 p.m. respectively.

“We are delighted to be able to offer our customers non-stop flights from our biggest hub to another two attractive destinations. The new service to Aalborg will provide us with access to an important part of northern Denmark, with its numerous businesses and universities. Reykjavík, on the other hand, is an attractive destination for both business and leisure travellers,” says Kay Kratky, member of the Lufthansa German Airlines Board, Operations & Hub Frankfurt. “The new connections are timed in such a way that both our customers from Europe and passengers from North America and Asia can transfer comfortably in Frankfurt.”

Aalborg is Denmark’s fourth largest city, with around 120,000 people, and is situated on the Limfjord, which links the city to the Baltic Sea, around 35 kilometres away. The port city has a strong chemical, metal and textile industry as well as a shipbuilding sector. The region has also become a hub for high-tech engineering in recent years. One of the region’s best-known products internationally is Aalborg Aquavit, or Aalborger for short.

The service to Reykjavík will operate on Thursdays and Saturdays with an Airbus A319, with 138 seats in Business and Economy Class. Flight LH 856 will take off from Frankfurt in the morning and land in Reykjavík around midday. Flight LH 857 will arrive back at Frankfurt Airport in the early evening. The world’s most northerly capital is the cultural and commercial centre of Iceland. The city serves as a starting point for tourists embarking on trips to the attractive surroundings, with their glaciers and volcanic landscape. Tourism is the second biggest sector of the economy and plays an important role, especially in the summer months.
