Lufthansa is expanding its long-haul network, flying to new destinations from Munich and Frankfurt next year and reviving the Singapore/Munich route. It will deploy A380s to link Munich with Hong Kong and Beijing.

Passengers will be able to fly five times a week between Munich and Singapore, providing a new way for Australians to enter Europe through an airport which consistently rates as best in Europe and one of the best in the world.

Munich Airport celebrated its 25th anniversary last month. It was selected as “Europe’s Best Airport” for the first time in 2005, in the World Airport Awards hosted by the London-based Skytrax Institute and based on a global survey of several million passengers. Since then, the Bavarian hub has earned that title 10 times – most recently in March 2017.

Lufthansa will add extra flights from Munich to Chicago, bringing frequency to 10 times weekly. Lufthansa will use the A380 to link Munich with Los Angeles, Beijing and Hong Kong.

Another development: direct flights from Frankfurt to Chicago .

Starting in the northern summer 2018, Lufthansa will introduce the A380 in Munich to serve long-haul destinations – Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Beijing – transferring five of its 14 Airbus A380s from Frankfurt to Munich.

“With the A380 we can offer our Munich customers a premium aircraft at a five-star hub,“ said Harry Hohmeister, the director responsible for  Hub Management at Lufthansa.

“In recent years, we have made great progress in steering our hubs. We harmonised and integrated processes and are now more flexible in utilising our aircraft at different locations. Quality, efficiency and growth will always remain our top priority.”

Over the next two years, the Lufthansa long-haul fleet in Munich will be receiving two more aircraft.
