Woodbridge on the Derwent, Tasmania’s only Small Luxury Hotel of the World member, is offering exclusive refreshed stay packages for the new season kicking off in September. The new packages, which allow guests to arrive at the historic property and relax, knowing everything has been done for them, include meals and daily activities, with optional additional activities and experiences available.

The daily activities programme includes thrice weekly yoga classes in the Pavilion’s Garden Room overlooking the River Derwent; use of electric bikes (maps provided) to explore local attractions and amenities; and storytelling drinks with hosts, John and Laurelle Grimley, on Friday evenings. Themes for the informal storytelling include Art and Artifacts at Woodbridge, the Restoration of Woodbridge and the History of Woodbridge and the New Norfolk local area.

Guests looking for a bespoke experience can choose from additional small group or private activities including guided kayak trips in search of wild platypus on the upper reaches of the Derwent River; chauffeured wine, whisky, gin or vodka tastings at historic estates; 4WD, bushwalking and photography tours to scenic spots off the tourist track; guided tours of Port Arthur, Freycinet and Bruny Island; and novice or master level guided fly-fishing.

Woodbridge guests can nourish themselves for the day ahead with a new lighter, healthier breakfast menu designed to meet guests’ preferences for lighter fare. The new morning menu includes barista tea and coffee, freshly squeezed juice, home baked croissants served with homemade jam, fresh or poached fruit, muesli and cereals, local artisanal breads, Greek yoghurt and homemade compote, cold meats, local cheeses and honey and free-range eggs.

Dinner is a four-course chef’s menu created exclusively for hotel guests from locally sourced (wherever possible) seasonal produce, including fine local meats and seafood as well as the freshest fruit and vegetables, and is served in Woodbridge’s Dining Room. The wine list reflects the Derwent Valley’s position as home to some of the best cool climate wines in Australia. Guests are welcome to pre-select their dinner wine from the Convict Lockup Wine Cellar from 5pm each day to give it time to breathe.

Woodbridge guests also benefit from a top-notch concierge service to assist with everything from making bookings for local restaurants (such as The Agrarian Kitchen or Stefano Lubiana) or cruises, to arranging tickets for MONA and Mt Field National Park.

With the new season just weeks away, owners Laurelle and John say:

‘Whether guests are interested in local history, art and culture, gastronomy, outdoor adventures or simply want to relax and unwind, we have plenty for them to enjoy at Woodbridge. Our new packages mean they can simply arrive and relax – we take care of everything, so they can make the most of their time at this unique and luxurious property.’
