Luxury tourists revolt as invading drunks poo in pool

egtmedia59Hundreds of drunk and rowdy locals invaded a luxury Caribbean resort, spoiling the refined ambience of the location by defecating in swimming pools and taking showers with their clothes on.

Perhaps worst of all, the drunks are accused of urinating on sun lounges while high-paying, sunbathing international hotel guests were still lying on them.

The lurid tale of horrid goings-on at the five-star ClubHotel Riu Merengue in the Dominican Republic has startled readers of Britain’s Daily Mail.HH250x250-3

Holidaying Britons said their enjoyment had been ruined by an invasion of drunken local guests who arrived on a cheap all-inclusive package deal. The deal, presumably designed to fill rooms at the 1007-room resort, seems to have included an “all you can eat” component, so locals piled the entire buffet onto their plates.

The food quickly ran out, leaving none for overseas guests who paid sums equivalent to almost AUD 20,000 for family holidays at the resort.

One guest told the paper: “They destroyed everything, ate everything. There was no food – they took it all.”

The pool had to be closed after being used repeatedly as a toilet, guests said. When families complained about the disruption, staff allegedly told them to take excursions at their own expense to escape the hotel.

Guests on packages there with Thomson Holidays grew so angry that they staged a sit-in at the resort’s Thomson desk.

One guest claims he was told it would cost almost AUD 3000 extra if he wanted to move his wife, two children and four other family members to another hotel nearby.

The report says that up to 100 overseas guests were finally moved to a less upmarket hotel – but were offered less than AUD 50 each in compensation.

Guests plan to continue their battle for compensation when they return home.

Thomson told the paper it was investigating the complaints. The hotel chain added: “The culture in the Dominican Republic is very different.”

    Hi there,

this is a shocking story, that resort should every tourist from overseas per 100% back and close the doors. This resort is a shame for the country and should never be allowed to deal with any customers again.
