On August 11, 1992, Mall of America®, the largest U.S. retail and entertainment complex, opened its doors.

Fast-forward 22 years, the 1.48 million square meter entertainment destination draws millions of travelers from all over the world, offering unique experiences aplenty. Whether you are four or 94, there is something for everyone to enjoy while visiting Mall of America. The Mall is only 800 kilometers or a 50 minute flight from Chicago, home of IPW 2014.

Forty-two million annual visitors cash in on zero sales tax on clothing and shoes (including hundreds of designer brands) each year at the 520 retailers located throughout Mall of America. Shopping, however, is not the only agenda for guests. With more than 450 events hosted at the Mall each year including several celebrity appearances, concerts and charitable events, the fun extends far beyond shopping.

At the center of Mall of America lies Nickelodeon Universe®, a 27-ride theme park for all ages. With thrills for guests of all ages and courage levels, Nickelodeon Universe offers everything from a vintage-style carousel to the seven story tall SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge rollercoaster.

Beyond Nickelodeon Universe, other interactive attractions to be enjoyed at Mall of America include:

  • Barbie™ The Dreamhouse Experience®: A 30,000 square-foot exhibit bringing the iconic Barbie® Dreamhouse® to life for Barbie® fans of all ages.
  • CSI: The Experience: A 15,000 square-foot exhibit based on the hit U.S. TV show “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”.
  • Moose Mountain Adventure Golf: An 18-hole miniature golf course.
  • SEA LIFE® Minnesota Aquarium: A 1.3 million gallon aquarium featuring sharks, sea turtles, jellyfish and more.
  • Theatres at Mall of America®: A 14-screen theatre featuring digital projection, D-BOX motion seating, a 21+ theatre and STARBAR lounge.
  • The LEGO® store : Featuring a 34-foot-tall robot made completely out of LEGOs
  • American Girl®destination store, doll salon and bistro

Tourism accounts for four out of ten visits each year to Mall of America. Situated less than three kilometers from the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP), the Mall is convenient for a single day shopping extravaganza or a weeklong spring break vacation. For those looking for an extended stay experience, guests can take advantage of the Radisson Blu hotel connected via skyway to Mall of America or the more than 50 different lodging options located within 10 miles of the Mall.  All hotels offer free shuttle service to the Mall and MSP Airport.
