Ireland’s first luxury rail voyage and a selection of romantic excursions into the heart of Persia are just some of the highlights of Rail Plus’ newly-released 2016 Great Train Journeys program.
Rail Plus’ team of experts have once again drawn on their unsurpassed knowledge and experience to curate a unique collection of train journeys exploring all corners of the world.
This year, European travel icons such as the Venice Simplon-Orient Express, Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian and Spain’s increasingly popular El Transcantabrico are joined by the Belmond Grand Hibernian in Ireland (from $4,470 per person).
From 2016 the train will offer a range of itineraries – including two-, four- and six-day options – that traverse the Emerald Isle’s lush green landscapes and dramatic coasts. Along the way passengers will experience Ireland’s unique culture, with tours of whiskey distilleries, the Blarney Stone, ancient castles and Galway’s music-filled pubs.
In North America, Rail Plus features VIA Rail’s The Canadian, which this year unveiled a new Prestige Class on its legendary four-day service between a Vancouver and Toronto. The company has also dedicated three pages to Rocky Mountaineer, including for the first time profiles of its five most popular rail and accommodation packages.
Africa is represented by two of the world’s most luxurious travel experiences – The Blue Train and Rovos Rail’s The Pride of Africa – which take passengers on stylish rail safaris to encounter the continent’s dramatic scenery and unrivalled wildlife.
One of the highlights of this year’s program is the inclusion of three journeys exploring Persia, all operated by the opulent Golden Eagle Danube Express. These include:
- Jewels of Persia (from $25,552 per person) – an 18-day epic journey between Budapest and Tehran that takes passengers from the banks of the Danube past magical Istanbul, Cappadocia’s ‘fairy chimneys’ and the spectacular ruins of Persepolis
- Heart of Persia (from $19,961 per person) – a fascinating 14-day round-trip from Tehran that takes in 12 Iranian cities, with highlights including the mosques of Mashhad, the beautiful boulevards of Isfahan and the gardens of Shiraz
- Treasures of Anatolia (from $21,718 per person) – a 15-day voyage between Istanbul and Tehran featuring treasures of the Ottoman sultans, Byzantine mosques grand bazaars and a rare visit to Yazd, one of the oldest cities in the world and a centre of Zoroastrianism.
