Macau has galloped into the Lunar New Year by attracting over one million visitors to its one-week long Spring Festival, a year-on-year increase of 13 per cent.

And among the local businesses to benefit strongly during the record-breaking times were the three to five-star hotels which recorded an average occupancy rate of almost 95 per cent, a rise of 5.4 per cent. unnamed (3)

The ever-growing chain of five-star hotels did exceptionally well with an average occupancy rate of 97.2 per cent, an increase of 6.3 per cent compared with corresponding 2013 figures.

According to preliminary statistics from the Macau Government Tourist Office, visitor arrivals to Macau numbered 1,054,183 (including foreign employees and students) during the January 31 to February 6 Year of the Horse celebrations, with over 770,000 hailing from mainland China during its Golden Week Holidays.

The three-star and four-star hotels achieved an average occupancy rate of 93.3 per cent and 92.8 per cent respectively, an increase of 4.3 per cent and 5.7 per cent.

The MGTO presented a series of mega outdoor celebrations for this year’s Spring Festival, including the Parade of Gigantic Golden Dragon, Parade for the Celebration of the Year of the Horse and a fireworks display for the celebration of 2014 Chinese New Year.

Special Chinese New Year festivities were also held along the four suggested self-guided walking tour routes of the project “Step Out, Experience Macau’s Communities”, designed to lengthen the time visitors spent in Macau.
