Mackay Mayor opens Quest Mackay on Gordon

October 8, 2013 Hotel Openings No Comments Email Email

Quest MOG - 5Mackay Mayor Cr. Deirdre Comerford and Quest Chairman Paul Constantinou last night officially opened the $30 million dollar Quest Mackay on Gordon.

Mr Constantinou attributed Quest’s expansion in the region to the ongoing success of major industries such as mining, construction, agriculture and tourism within Mackay.

“Mackay has long been known as the service centre of Queensland’s rich resource basins, and is home to a growing number of innovative businesses,” Mr Constantinou said.

Mackay Mayor Cr. Deirdre Comerford, who alongside Mr. Constantinou opened the property, said that Quest’s decision to open a second property in the region was testament to the ongoing alliance that Quest has developed with regional Queensland.

“People in the region have come to recognise Quest as a major provider in the accommodation market. For a national organisation such as Quest to be opening a second property in the region supports our argument that Mackay is a growing area for business tourism,” Cr. Comerford said.

“I know how important it is to have an accommodation space that allows people to feel at home as much as possible – and a Quest apartment certainly portrays that feeling,” Cr. Comerford added.

Quest Mackay on Gordon is a joint venture between Russell and Elise Spurrell – current Franchisees of Quest Mackay – and Mackay locals, Rob and Corinna Cotter. The Gordon Street property represents an expansion of the Spurrells business in Mackay, whilst for the Cotters; Quest Mackay on Gordon is their first foray into business ownership.   All four will have an active role at the new property.

Ms Cotter was thrilled with the presence of key local business people at the event.

“Having nearly 100 local people from Mackay come and celebrate the opening with us, is proof of the support and excitement surrounding the opening of this property,” Ms Cotter said.

Guests on the night were treated to guided tours of the property, which includes 115 brand new studio, one and two bedroom serviced apartments, as well as conference facilities, secure undercover car parking, and a recreational deck including a swimming pool, spa, and gymnasium.

Quest Mackay on Gordon also announced a $2,000 donation to local charity Mackay Riding for the Disabled, who provide horse riding, therapy, sport and recreation to the disabled children and adults of Mackay.

Quest Mackay on Gordon is located at 27 Gordon Street, Mackay.
