Maine: Three Towns Listed Among Most Expensive U.S. Destinations

The survey compared hotel rates for all U.S. destinations for the main summer holiday period of July 1 through August 31.

The fifth most expensive U.S. destination according to the survey is Old Orchard Beach. To enjoy this Maine locale, travelers will have to spend $192, on average, for the most affordable double room. Only slightly cheaper are two other York County towns,Kennebunkport and Ogunquit. Their average summer rates are $184 and $183 respectively, ranking them seventh and eighth most expensive in the nation.

The most expensive destination according to the survey is a Massachusetts location, Provincetown. At this coastal resort town, which is located at the extreme tip of Cape Cod, travelers will have to pay an average of $217 for the most affordable double room this summer.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in the USA based on the cost of staying there this summer. The prices shown are based on the average rate for each locale’s cheapest available double room during the time period spanning July through August 2013.
