egtmedia59There’s more to Phillip Island than penguins on parade. The iconic Victorian island is set to appeal to even more visitors with the announcement of two new tourist attractions, each funded with AUD 1.2 million from the Victorian Government’s AUD 1 billion Regional Growth Fund.

“The Nobbies and Summerland Peninsula Tourism Expansion is a unique project that will establish two new attractions on Phillip Island – a World Wide Fund for Nature state-of-the-art multimedia interpretative display and a new Eco Boat Tour located in Cowes,” Minister for Tourism and Major Events Louise Asher said while launching the project.Dusit-Hot-Deals-Banner-250x250-06

Representing the Minister for Regional and Rural Victoria, she said the Victorian Government funding would support the overall AUD 4.24 million Nobbies and Summerland Tourism Expansion project.

“These additional tourist attractions will add value to the local economy, with a further 25,000 visitors each year expected to book an Eco Boat Tour, which will include trained educational guides”.

Asher said local company Wildlife Coast Cruises will run the Eco Boat Tour.

“Along with the Penguin Parade, Koala Conservation Centre and Churchill Island Heritage Farm, the Nobbies and Summerland Peninsula Tourism Expansion will further increase the region’s unique nature-based experiences,” Ms Asher said.

“The partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature is the first of its type in Australia, and reinforces the excellence of the conservation and tourism activities offered by the Phillip Island Nature Park.”
