Last summer, my sister booked a family vacation at a resort known for its water park. It had nothing but amazing reviews and the approval of her most important, and vocal, critics – her two teenage sons. They were all looking forward to the trip for months, but they arrived to find the slides and lazy river under construction. The relaxing vacation my sister was hoping would help her family reset turned into the exact opposite, with—very vocal!—disappointment all around. Not the summer vacation any of us dream of.

Our team has heard countless stories like this and decided to turn this into an opportunity to offer differentiated services to our issuers and deliver great customer experiences to our cardholders.  I am pleased to share the launch of two new benefits for World and World Elite:

  • For our World and World Elite cardholders’ peace of mind, we’re now offering the Hotel Stay Guarantee. Cardholders who experience any problems with their 3-star or higher rated hotel can contact a Lifestyle Manager 24/7 who will work directly with the hotel to resolve the issue. If the issue can’t be solved—like a water park that’s out of service—the Lifestyle Manager will book them at a comparable hotel.
  • With Mastercard’s Lowest Hotel Rate Guarantee, we make sure our World and World Elite cardholders get the best value possible. If a cardholder books a hotel with us but then finds a lower price online, the difference will be completely refunded.

I’m excited to share that, starting today, these guarantees are available through our updated Mastercard travel service, both online and offline, in North America to help keep things simple, capitalize on value and make sure cardholders can breathe a little easier wherever and whenever they travel. In the coming months, these guarantees will be available across 37 markets globally.

These perks complement the things we already do to take the hassle out of travel, like offering free Wi-Fi at millions of worldwide hotspots, access to airport lounges and car rental deals.

Even though it’s too late to help my sister on her waterpark excursion, it’s not too late to help her – and you – on the next trip!
