Tourism Malaysia has launched a promotional drive to increase the number of visitors to the country from Australia, with a series of special events planned across the country for Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

Visit Malaysia Year 2014 comprises an intensive tourism campaign that will promote Malaysia to Australians and other countries around the world. The global campaign, which is set to drive a target of 28 million tourists to the country next year, was recently launched in Australia with the newly appointed Tourism & Culture Minister announcing it to the Australian market at events in Melbourne and Perth.

The Visit Malaysia Year 2014 campaign hopes to target 620,000 Australians, nearly a 25% increase from 2012 visitor arrival figures.

During the recent visit to Australia to promote VMY2014 to the travel industry, the Honourable Minister for Tourism & Culture for Malaysia said that Australia is a key market for Tourism Malaysia, and that the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 campaign will drive visitors to the country.

“Australia is a key market for Malaysia, with visitor arrivals from Australia to Malaysia, growing year-on-year. In statistics received so far this year short term visitors from Australia to Malaysia are up 6% compared to the same period in 2012. I feel there is great potential to increase this further.”

Last year over half a million Australians travelled to Malaysia. This makes Australia the eighth top producing market for Tourism Malaysia.
