Malte Haut, new Lufthansa General Manager Hong Kong, South China & Macau

Lufthansa German Airlines appoint new General Manager Hong Kong, South China and Macau. The airlines will further improve its onboard service with Premium Economy on Hong Kong route this December.


Mr. Malte Haut, 40, has been appointed General Manager Hong Kong, South China and Macau of Lufthansa German Airlines. In this position, he will be responsible for Passenger Sales and Marketing of Lufthansa Group Airlines in Hong Kong, South China and Macau, starting from November 1, 2014.

Mr. Haut held the function of Head of Revenue Management for Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Nordics formerly. He was in charge of revenue optimization as well as cooperation strategies with SWISS and Austrian Airlines.

Malte Haut joined Lufthansa German Airlines in Frankfurt in 2001 under the Lufthansa Management Trainee Program, being stationed also in Tokyo and New York. In 2003, he took over the position as Global Key Account Manager in Lufthansa Frankfurt managing multi-airline agreements for global corporate accounts. He has very solid knowledge of the airline industry.

“Today, I’m very glad to nominate Malte Haut to be General Manager of Lufthansa in Hong Kong,” said Juerg Christen, Managing Director for Greater China of Lufthansa German Airlines. “As Mr. Haut is more than 10 years in the airline industry and took several functions in Asia before, I’m quite confident that his expertise will help to further strengthen Lufthansa’s leading position in Hong Kong and South China markets.”

On the occasion of the introduction of the new Hong Kong manager, Mr. Christen also addressed the upcoming launch of Premium Economy, a completely new travel class for the first time in 35 years. ”As of December, flights from Hong Kong to Frankfurt will be among the first routes equipped with the new Premium Economy, operated by the Boeing 747-8 with 32 Premium Economy seats of each flight.”
