Mandarin Oriental, New York is delighted to announce their collaboration with the award-winning designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy, founders of luxury clothing and accessories brand, Rodarte on a guide to New York called the Rodarte New York City Guide Depicting a trip through Manhattan from the designer duo’s unique perspective, the guide is available beginning in October as a guest amenity exclusively in rooms and suites of the Five-Star, Five-Diamond hotel. image003

The Rodarte New York City Guide is a visualization of the discoveries and insights which have defined Kate and Laura’s city experiences. Designed as both a functional map of Manhattan and also a collectable art piece, the guide reflects the craftsmanship and detail inherent to Rodarte and Mandarin Oriental, New York’s working philosophies.

“With our Rodarte New York City Guide, the goal was to capture that feeling of discovery when you come to the city for the guests at our favorite hotel, Mandarin Oriental, New York. This is a very personal project for us, these are some of the most special places we’ve experienced during our trips to New York.” says Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte of the collaboration.

The guide’s signature pattern is based on the hand-dyed tulle employed in the design duo’s monumental fall 2008 collection. A bold, rectilinear interpretation of Manhattan executed in monochrome tones and gold sits in stark contrast to this ephemeral backdrop. Key locations that are especially meaningful to Kate and Laura have been depicted with personal notes and include Bergdorf Goodman, Dashwood Books and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

“It is always our wish to inspire guests of Mandarin Oriental, New York to explore the city and see it for the first time, every time.  The Rodarte New York City Guide gives guests the unique opportunity to explore a town as Kate and Laura Mulleavy would,” said General Manager Susanne Hatje.

The guide was designed by artist Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic, who is known for his recent work on the visual language for the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards, and creative director Phil Chang.  Printing of the guide was done in collaboration with New York’s Proof7.

Though the guide is exclusively available for guests of Mandarin Oriental, New York, the hotel invites fans and followers to participate in a special Rodarte New York City Guide social media sweepstakes.  Followers of the hotel’s Facebook pages will have the opportunity to win one of ten Rodarte New York City Guides signed by Kate and Laura Mulleavy between September 25 and October 25. One grand prize winner will be selected to experience a two night stay in a Central Park View Room. No purchase is necessary and full sweepstakes details and terms may be found by visiting Mandarin Oriental, New York’s Facebook page.
