The Margaret River region set a shining example at two major tourism and hospitality award ceremonies on the weekend – a testament to the high quality tourism product in the region.

At the 2013 Perth Airport Western Australian Tourism Awards, operators from the region took home 10 medals, including five gold: Koomal Dreaming in the Indigenous Tourism category, Top Drop Tours for Tour and/or Transport Operators, Sunsmart Ironman Western Australia in the Major Festivals and Events category, Big 4 Peppermint Park for Tourist and Caravan Parks and Geographe Bay Tourism Association for Visitor Information and Services.

Silver medals were won by Voyager Estate in the Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries category, and Darby Park for Deluxe Accommodation.

The Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association took home bronze for the Visitor Information and Services Award, as did Pullman Resort Bunker Bay in the Luxury Accommodation Category and Geographe Bay Tourism for its “Recharge Yourself” marketing campaign.

Other finalists from the Margaret River region included Harvest Tours which was nominated for two categories, and Laurance of Margaret River.

The Margaret River region also took home a swathe of medals at the 2013 AHA-AON Hotel and Hospitality Awards for Excellence, for which the presentations were held on Monday night.

Settlers Tavern Margaret River took out four awards including WA’s Best Live Entertainment Venue, WA’s Best Casual Pub Dining, WA’s Best Responsible Service of Alcohol Venue and highly commended – Damon McMillen of Settlers Tavern for WA’s Best Venue Manager.

Eagle Bay Brewing Co took out WA’s Best Regional Venue of the Year and WA’s Best Administration Employee Gabrielle MacDonald; and Morries Anytime in Margaret River was awarded WA’s Best Contemporary Bar Menu and highly commended – Billy Phillips of Morries Anytime for WA’s Best Mixologist.

Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association CEO Pip Close said the accolades at both awards nights exemplified the outstanding quality of tourism product in the Margaret River region.

“The Margaret River region is a world-class tourism destination, and the fact that numerous operators from the region were nominated and won awards at both the state tourism awards and the AHA-AON Awards for Excellence this year is a strong indication of the exceptional standard set by our local tourism and hospitality operators.

“We would like to congratulate all winners and finalists for their notable contributions to the industry,” said Ms Close.

Both award ceremonies were held at the Crown Perth Complex over the weekend. All category winners from the WA Tourism awards now progress to the QANTAS Australian Tourism Awards which will be held in Sydney in February 2014.
