Mark Rose, General Manager, The Rees Hotel Queenstown, was accorded the major honour of being voted General Manager of the Year at this year’s HM Awards held in Sydney on Friday. This highly coveted award is all the more impressive as it included 12 finalists from a range of outstanding properties and highly experienced GMs across New Zealand.
Mr Rose has been the General Manager responsible for the ongoing success and outstanding growth of business for The Rees Hotel Queenstown since its opening in 2009. He is currently overseeing construction and implementation of five luxury lakeside Rees Residences due to open in 2016.
The Rees Hotel Queenstown was also runner-up in the best New Zealand Hotel category – a huge achievement against eleven other outstanding finalists including major chain and boutique hotels from both North and South Islands.
Mr Rose said, “I am delighted to accept this award; it’s an absolute honour. I’d like to dedicate it to my entire team for their commitment, effort and support without which this achievement would not have been possible. We are also excited to have been awarded the runner-up in Best New Zealand Hotel category which reflects our staff’s dedication to consistently delivering the high standard of service which has made these awards possible.”
The Rees was also a finalist in the two other categories for which it was nominated across eligible countries including Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific: Service to the Community (for its support for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation) and Hotel Chef (Executive Chef Ben Batterbury ). Last year, Ben Batterbury was awarded Highly Commended in the Hotel Chef category in these awards.
These prestigious industry awards were established by Hotel Management Magazine in Australia and have now expanded to encompass properties across New Zealand and the South Pacific to recognise excellence over a range of categories, from people and departments to properties and chains.
