An unforgettable evening of live music, daring acrobatic performances by Era and gourmet “East meets West” specialties hosted by Marriott International raised RMB2,120,080 for the Yao Foundation. Marriott International has supported the Yao Foundation since 2013 which was established by former basketball player Yao Ming. The Yao Foundation is dedicated to the development of Chinese youth through education, sports skills, health and self-esteem.
Centered upon the theme of L’ABSTRACTION and staged in the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Parkview, the gala was jointly organized by Marriott hotels in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Kunshan, Ningbo and Changzhou.
Since recognizing Yao Foundation as its key corporate social responsibility (CSR) partner in China in 2013, Marriott International has been supporting numerous Yao Foundation community service programs. The annual black tie gala dinner is the marquee affair and has attracted over 500 corporate guests and individual sponsors.
During the 2015 gala dinner, J.W. Marriott, Jr., Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Marriott International, appeared in a special video to express his gratitude to the guests, Marriott associates and Yao Foundation teams for their support of children’s education. He said: “My sincere thanks to all those who have supported and fostered growth of education in China. I am very proud of the partnership Marriott International has with Yao Foundation. Together we are connecting students in remote areas with technology and resources that can change the world. All proceeds generated from ticket sales and charity auction of the 2015 charity gala night will be donated to Yao Foundation.
For the past three years, Marriott International and Yao Foundation have been working together to organize fund-raising activities and has committed to contribute RMB 13 million to the Yao Foundation over six years to build Hope Schools in southwestern China and support the Yao Foundation Hope Primary School Basketball program. .
