Marriott to create 19,000 jobs this year in Asia Pacific

In a dramatic demonstration of the employment power of hospitality, Marriott International has announced plans to create 19,000 new job positions in the Asia Pacific by the end of this year.

The growth trajectory was unveiled in the run up to Journey Week, Marriott International’s annual employer brand program, which will take place next week at more than 600 Marriott properties in Asia Pacific.

The week-long series of events from 16-20 April 2018 aims to attract new talent while inspiring current associates to aim high. Journey Week encourages and inspires associates to create their own future and help shape the company, and also shows potential employees why Marriott International is an employer of choice.

Marriott’s spectacular growth is underpinned the its approach to attracting and retaining talent: it aims to enable workers to develop progressive careers in a company that prides itself on celebrating teamwork, excellence and involvement.

“Journey Week is a platform that reinforces our company’s global employer brand campaign ‘To the Journey,’” said Regan Taikitsadaporn, chief human resources officer at Marriott International.

“The week-long series of events will bring to life our value proposition: that Marriott International offers unmatched career opportunities coupled with a culture that empowers associates to live their best lives.”

During Journey Week, across Asia Pacific, each Marriott International hotel will host activities to engage their existing associates and attract external talent.

Highlights include career coaching sessions, hotel open houses, local school engagement, resume and interview preparation workshops, as well as diversity celebrations. Associates in senior leadership roles will also share their own career journeys to inspire others to reach their own career destinations.

A focus on women in leadership roles is evident. Inspiring associates will showcase and emphasize their progression and journey throughout each stage of their career.

President and managing director, Asia Pacific at Marriott International, Craig S. Smith, said Asia Pacific was the company’s fastest-growing region outside the US and in 2018 was set to expand further with 80 new hotels across 16 markets.

Marriott currently runs 6500 properties in 30 hotel brands spanning 127 countries and territories. The company operates and franchises hotels and licenses vacation ownership resorts around the world.
