Mauri Pro And Sunsail Launch First Annual Whale Shark Flotilla With The Global Finprint In Belize

unnamed (29)From April 21-30th or May 21-28th 2016 join Mauri Pro, the Global FinPrint and Sunsail for a Flotilla to experience the annual Whale Shark Migration while diving and snorkelling the untouched reefs of Belize.

Mauri Pro and Sunsail are excited to announce the first ever Whale Shark Migration and Dive Flotilla which will take place from 21-30th April and 21-28th May 2016 in the beautiful waters of Belize. Having the ability to see the largest fish in the ocean in one of the most scenic of their natural habitats is a bucket list experience for many cruisers and ocean lovers. We are very excited to be able to host this group with the presence of the Global FinPrint’s lead scientist Demian Chapman onboard. This week long charter is set to fall during the full moon as the cycle of the moon dictates the ideal window for observing these majestic giants during their move and the Sunsail base out of Placencia is a perfect place to begin this journey.

Due to the nature of the expedition we have arranged for a dive master to join the crew and will spend most time when the Whale Sharks aren’t in the area diving and snorkelling the pristine reefs around the many Cays of Belize. With the help of Mauri Pro and our friends at Roberts Grove diving outfitters we will have the opportunity for guests to dive on the reefs throughout the duration of the trip.

This trip will include unique experiences which will be highlighted by the knowledgeable presence of Demian Chapman who says of the expedition, “The migration of whale sharks to Gladden Spit, Belize, around the spring full moons coincides with a great feeding opportunity as they consume the spawn released by thousands of reef fish. We are also interested in the possibility that this event attracts other, more predatory sharks which eat the spawning fish and look forward to investigating this as part of the Global FinPrint Project while educating the guests of the Flotilla along the way.”

Some of the places the flotilla will stop include the often frequented by Whale Sharks’ Gladden Marine Reserve which is partially home to the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere as well as the Silk Cayes and three offshore atolls ripe for exploring. Belize is at no loss for once in a lifetime experiences. “For Sunsail, this is a long overdue opportunity for us to offer those who have yet to check this incredible journey off their bucket lists a chance to not only observe these gentle giants but to learn about them and explore Belize with the knowledge of both expert scientists and dive masters available throughout the journey. There is no better way to appreciate and protect the environment than by having a once in a lifetime experience with its majesty, we are honored to be able to help facilitate this for our charterers while helping progress the research of the Global FinPrint.” says, Kass Scarlett of Sunsail.
