Meatstock Melbourne A line up to get your teeth into

Next year’s Meatstock festival is hosting the best names in barbecue and it doesn’t get much bigger than Tuffy Stone and Jess Pryles. These two smokin’ barbecue experts will be heading to Melbourne with the festival to run barbecue classes and demonstrations for both competitors and the public. 

Locked and loaded for Meatstock Melbourne is 4x world barbecue champion Tuffy Stone. Tuffy is one of the most successful guys on the competition BBQ circuit and has amassed and amazing 37 Grand Championships. Known as “The Professor” for his attention to detail, Tuffy is a classically trained French Chef, who became obsessed with BBQ in the early 2000’s and isa a judge on America’s huge reality TV show BBQ Pitmasters, whilst expanding his BBQ restaurants around the states. “Melbourne is Australia’s foodie capital, so I am looking forward to sharing our BBQ techniques together next year,” stated Tuffy. “It was a so much fun meeting the BBQ teams from around the country last year in Sydney’s sell out festival, so I am super keen to experience Melbourne.”

Jess Pryles is a cook, author, TV host and a full time Hardcore Carnivore. Born and raised in Melbourne, Jess now resides in Texas – the home of low’n’slow brisket & BBQ. “Being able to come back and host Butcher Wars in my home town will be such an incredible full circle moment”, says Pryles. An event unique to Meatstock, Melbourne Butcher Wars is a live battle between the finest butcher talent in the country, who have 30 minutes to show their skills and creativity to the judges and crowds, all live on stage! “I think it’s fantastic these talented men and women are getting the chance to show off their craft, some of their speeds and creations have to be seen to be believed”, enthuses Pryles. In addition to being a maven of all things meat, Jess is the creator of the internationally acclaimed event, The Carnivores Ball, co-founder of the Australasian Barbecue Alliance and was a celebrity judge on Channel 7’s reality TV series Aussie Barbecue Heroes.

Over fifty-five teams from across Australia and counting will be battling it out at the first ever Meatstock Melbourne barbecue wars for $10,000 in cash and prizes and more importantly to be crowned the best barbecuers in Victoria. This year the competition is heating up with a whole new event, King of The Grill. Barbecue fanatics can now compete for the title of best Steak, Burger and Wings, sanctioned by America’s Steak Cook Off Association. This is the first ever SCA sanctioned cook-off in Australia and is fun entry-level competition, where any type of barbecue style is encouraged.

The pro-protein festival is taking place in Melbourne from the 22nd– 23rd April, featuring bands and barbecues, beards and barbers, butchers, bourbon and plenty of beer.

The flaming hot two day line-up includes competitions such as the ‘Barbecue, Butcher and Barber Wars’, as well as demonstrations and workshops. The event is garnished with a backdrop of live bands, BBQ inspired food trucks and craft beer.
