Held throughout the month of April, State Makers is a festival of tastes, experiences and ideas, which will serve as an introduction to the talents at play in the historic State Buildings.

The programme features over 100 individual events and stretches out beyond the stellar food and drink offering, to workshops, one off experiences and sessions with noted West Australian artists and creatives. This inaugural series of events delivers on developer Adrian Fini’s vision of opening the State Buildings to the people of Perth.

Christos Pavlidis, General Manager of Food and Beverage, State Buildings, commented, “We are excited to put the producers and craftsmen up on stage during the month of April. We have spent a great deal of time ensuring we are working with the best quality suppliers in WA and they all have a great story to tell”.

Anneke Brown, General Manager, COMO The Treasury commented “Our wonderful property is so much more than a place to stay – it’s a place to learn about wellness, enjoy conversation, share knowledge and discover one’s epicurious nature. The State Makers program has been carefully curated to allow people to explore this aspect of the hotels offering,” said Brown.

State Makers is at heart, a celebration of West Australian creativity; a chance to meet the people behind Australia’s most anticipated and lauded precinct. Since opening the doors of the State Buildings in late 2015 the development at Perth’s historic centre has grabbed international attention and acclaim; from the sympathetic restoration, to restaurants that are redefining the Perth restaurant scene to the opening of COMO The Treasury (an Australian first), and the showcasing of West Australian artisan talent.

Kitchen teams across the State Buildings will host a range of events from Songkran, a traditional celebration of Thai New Year at Long Chim (April 16th) to Jed Gerrard’s celebration of the Noongar season, Djeran, at Wildflower (April 27th) and the Cullen Collaboration Dinner also at Wildflower (April 14th). Jesse Blake of Petition hosts a range of dinners, lunches and special menu options that pair his innovative style with the amazing array of beer and wine available across the three iterations of Petition.

Join Perth’s favourite accessories designer for a very special High Tea at the Treasury Lounge and Bar on May 1st. Poppy has collaborated with COMO The Treasury pastry chef Rika Shiina to design an afternoon tea with a twist based on Poppy’s eye catching, left of centre and distinctive design aesthetic. This is finger sandwiches, fruit tarts and more reimagined. Limited tickets available for two sittings, 10am and 3pm, $85 per person, includes a class of Taittinger Champagne.

COMO The Treasury is set to host a series of wellness events, from Tai Chi and Yoga beginner workshops to morning wellness events with Yoga in Cathedral Square, followed by healthful COMO Shambhala cuisine. A perfect opportunity to get to know the world-class wellness programme available at COMO Shambhala.

A programme of free activities and events will bring the city to life from the Cathedral Square Markets (April 3rd) to Saturday pop up music sessions in Cathedral Square (weekly) and displays from Artist in Residence, Matt Hayes (daily).

Learn from the makers with a host of hands on, fun and educational talksand sessions. Temper chocolate with Sue Lewis (April 6th), learn to mix cocktails from celebrated head barman James Connolly of Long Chim (April 3rd, 10th) or let the kids loose with Long Chim noodle making (April 9th).

Cathedral Square will become a hub for the 2016 KickstART Festival, a celebration of National Youth Week. Driven by young people with big ideas, the festival will feature a two-week long school holiday program featuring hands-on workshops and events.
