Wework is the biggest co-working office company in the world. With 29 locations, 15 in the United States, they have recently been valued at $16 billion.

Australia’s largest co-working space, The Commons, is currently outstripping the first year growth Wework experienced, and after the successful opening of their Collingwood location are expanding with a new South Melbourne office complex open now and two more locations secured.

The Commons is the brainchild of Melbourne school friends Cliff Ho and Tom Ye. Launched in June this year The Commons first location in Collingwood is already at capacity, with more than 200 people working in the office every day.

“Our South Melbourne location will be of the same high standard as Collingwood,” Ho said. “We believe in changing the way small businesses spend their working day. We are providing beautiful work spaces people want to come to, while at the same time creating a microcosm where creativity flows from one business to another.”

More than a serviced office The Commons provides a workspace modelled on the modern staff friendly offices of Google and Facebook.

“Innovative companies like Google, Facebook and Slack know how to keep their staff happy and stay at the office for longer hours compared to traditional offices which are four white walls and fluorescent lights where people are clock watching. What we’ve created here is a beautiful space where people are happy while they’re at work and stick around even after they’ve finished their day.”

Aside from the usual services like IT, and phones systems, The Commons create a fun and exciting workplace with added extras like arcade machines, beer on tap and a beautiful garden in the middle of the office.

The South Melbourne location features stunning views of the city, a balcony on each of the buildings three levels, a spin studio and state of the art IT.

“Coming to work should be an enjoyable experience, people should want to come into the office,” Ho said. “We want to change the way Australian’s work.”

The Commons team take a great amount of care in curating their membership base. They look for people and companies with positive attitudes who are driven, innovative and creative.

“This helps build a great environment to work in. We design a beautiful space where members have places to work and socialise together. We provide privacy to pursue your own business but also opportunities for collaboration when you need it. Space to work, think and thrive,” Ho said.

Ho and Ye are planning expansion interstate, into Asia and Europe and are on the lookout for potential investors.
