Melbourne- Xiamen route will be inaugural 1st July

4th May 2016, Xiamen Airlines Melbourne product launch hold in Sheraton Hotel.Xiamen Airlines, China’s sixth-largest carrier announced to launch Melbourne to Xiamen route form 1st July. This Melbourne-Xiamen route will be the third Australia route of Xiamen Airlines and becomes the 30th international airline fly into Victoria. Melbourne to Xiamen route is expected to boost tourism, education and trade among Victoria and China; provide an additional option for traveller travelling between Melbourne and China.

Xiamen Airlines utilise Boeing 787-8 for the Melbourne-Xiamen route, cabin layout includes 4 first class, 18 business class and 214 economy class. The route number is MF803 and MF804. Flights depart Xiamen every Thursday,Sunday at 22:15, arrived Melbourne at 10:05, with total flying duration 9 hours 50 minutes. Flights depart from Melbourne every Monday, Friday afternoon at 12:05, arrive Xiamen at 19:45, with total 9 hours 40 minutes flying time (above are all in local time).

During the launch, Commercial Counselor of Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Melbourne, Mr. Wang Xiaojia, Senior Investment Manager of Invest Victoria Mr Nigel Aldons, Chief of Aviation of Melbourne Airport Mr Simon Gandy attended and gave a speech for the audience. Xiamen Airlines announced the Melbourne-Xiamen route information, and also provided special products, services and marketing transit service information on-site.


Commercial Counselor of Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Melbourne, Mr. Wang Xiaojia mentioned aviation is a showcase of the fast growing economic relations between China and Australia, especially in tourism. China is Victoria’s largest source of tourism revenue. In last financial year, the number of Chinese visitors to Victoria jumped to 490,000, contributing $2.2 billion to Victorian economy. Victoria’s tourism stocks are strong under the Andrews Labor Government, and will grow this important industry further. They are expected to attract more Chinese visitors and increase tourism revenue from $2.2 billion in 2015 to over $3.4 billion by 2026. He believes Xiamen airline is another opportunity for Victoria to strengthen its global appeal as a place to visit.


Senior Investment Manager of Invest Victoria Mr Nigel Aldons said, Xiamen Airlines will be an important partner for Victoria.  It is one of China’s fastest growing airlines and has good connections through its hub to other ports in China and overseas.  He mentioned, he is very excited for July, 2016 two weekly Melbourne-Xiamen route services. This is good news for the 400,000 + Australians that head to China each year, double the amount from 10 years ago. China is Victoria’s largest trading partner with two-way trade valued at $20.4 billion. It is Victoria number one international source market for international visitors with nearly ½ million Chinese visitors coming to Victoria in 2015; and these tourists spend over $2.2 billion, more than the six largest countries combined. The coming decade will present many more opportunities to grow our State’s relationship with Xiamen Airlines and we appreciate the efforts of Xiamen Airlines’ local team led by Ms Teresa Tong.


Chief of Aviation of Melbourne Airport Mr Simon Gandy mentioned more international visitors come to Melbourne from China than anywhere else in the world. Last year, we welcomed 731,000 passengers from China. Over the past five years we have seen the fastest average growth from Chinese passengers out of all major airports in Australia – 15.4% each year on average. Victorians are also travelling to China in growing numbers. Over the past five years our outbound traffic has grown on average by 7.2% each year. And soon, Xiamen will become part of Melbourne Airport’s successful relationship with China. In just under two months, our two cities will be connected by aviation – with direct services from Melbourne to Xiamen.


General Manager of Xiamen Airlines Melbourne Office Ms. Teresa Tong mentioned during the launch,  Since 30th Nov and 6th Dec 2015, Xiamen Air started its ‘Sidney–Fuzhou’ and ‘Sidney-Xiamen’ direct routes, it has been widely supported by the community, supported by the passenger between two cities. Melbourne city slogan “Vires acquirit eundo”,demonstrates to the world Melbourne as the historical and cultural city of Australian with the spirit: stable, dependable, practical. This is perfectly fits with Xiamen Airlines corporate culture.


During the launch, by playing Xiamen Airlines corporate videos and “Wave of Gulangyu “music, Xiamen Airlines created a Xiamen atmosphere for the audience. Xiamen Airlines using the new Boeing Dreamliner, caring historical mission of building friendly relationship among two nations, fulfilling the dream of flight .
