Melco Resorts & Entertainment is committed to environmental sustainability as one of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) priorities. Coinciding with Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM)’s 38th Macao Green Week (March 16 to 24), Melco hosted a series of green-related events to raise environmental awareness in the community, targeting both employees and members of the wider local community.

Internally, during ‘Melco Green Week’, the company collaborated with The Salvation Army to host an environmental awareness roadshow featuring game booths at employee Heart of House areas across City of Dreams, Studio City and Altira Macau, as well as at the company’s offices at Flower City. Close to 250 colleagues were introduced to the concept of ‘Recycling, Sharing and Connecting with the Community’, and donated to the organization. Furthermore, during the week, the company’s Heart of House eateries provided colleagues with additional sustainable menus with the Melco Green Week Diet, highlighting healthy, environmentally-responsible food options.

Externally, at a separate event titled Melco Community Recycle Day with The Salvation Army held at Jardim Areia Preta, 600 pot plants grown with organic fertilizer mixed with compost processed by Melco’s food waste decomposers were gifted to members of the community who brought along goods for recycling. Another event to combat single use plastics saw the company host a DIY workshop dedicated to creating reusable cup holders with Fu Hong Society and attended by a more than 20 Melco volunteers and beneficiaries.

Furthermore, as the first local gaming operator to participate in Macao Green Week, 250 plants dismantled from Melco’s butterfly-themed display at Tap Seac Square were donated to various local NGOs and their beneficiaries including Mong Há House, Alvorada Day Activity Centre, Lok Man House and Fun Lok Physical and Mental Health Service Station. Plants reaching the end of their life cycle were treated at Melco’s waste decomposers to become recycled as organic compost.

Mr. Lawrence Ho, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, said, “The series of Melco-hosted initiatives coinciding with this year’s Macao Green Week exemplifies the company’s dedication to sustainable development. As a responsible corporate citizen, we are pleased to become the first local integrated resort operator participant of Macao Green Week. We look forward to continue developing our close working relationship with IAM in support of government-led initiatives to establish Macau as the global city for green tourism.”
