Melco Resorts & Entertainment hosted its 3rd annual Quiz for Knowledge Responsible Gaming Competition for colleagues. It is part of the employee education component of Melco’s award-winning Responsible Gaming (RG) System, and was held at City of Dreams before 400 guests. Mr. Lawrence Ho, Melco’s Chairman and CEO, officiated the event together with guests of honor including Mr. Xu Jun, Deputy-Director General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR; Ms. Dong Hui, Assistant of Economic Affairs Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Ms. Chan Ioc Sut, Head of Research and Investigation Department of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ); and Ms. Wu I Mui, Division Head of Problem Gambling Prevention and Treatment of Social Welfare Bureau. Invited guests included representatives from Macau Polytechnic Institute, University of Macau, Associação de Juventude Voluntária de Macau, Gaming Employees Home and Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office.

In alignment with Melco’s philosophy of educating both gaming and non-gaming colleagues on RG, competition participants comprised employees from all levels and departments within the Company. Teams were tested on RG knowledge based on learning materials from the Government-sponsored Certificate in Macau Responsible Gambling Advisor Program.

Melco’s proactive and systematic approach towards Responsible Gaming includes programs and initiatives that go above and beyond mandated regulatory requirements and industry-leading technology. Every colleague at Melco is trained to identify and manage problem gaming, and to help raise awareness among guests and the wider community. More than 65,000 colleagues have participated in Responsible Gaming activities since 2007, and the Company has over 300 Responsible Gaming ambassadors across its worldwide properties. Alongside the use of innovative technology to restrict access to gaming floors, the efficacy of our Responsible Gaming initiatives contributed to Melco being awarded Socially Responsible Operator of the Year at the 12th International Gaming Awards in February 2019, as well as Best Corporate Social Responsibility Contribution at the recent G2E Asia Awards 2019.

At the event, Mr. Lawrence Ho, Chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, commented: “Responsible Gaming is a top priority at Melco. As ever, we are wholly supportive of the government’s policies which place Responsible Gaming as a key focus area for the healthy development of Macau, both locally and within the Greater Bay Area. Aside from employee education, we shall continue to devote resources to the development of our pioneering technologies and community engagement initiatives as social safeguards to be implemented throughout our properties, as we cooperate with international governments and gaming regulators to develop and maintain a culture of Responsible Gaming.”

Ms. Chan Ioc Sut, Head of Research and Investigation, DICJ, said: “Responsible Gaming continues to be a highly significant part of the Macao SAR Government’s policy address. We are encouraged to see Melco employ RG materials from the Government-sponsored Macau Responsible Gambling Advisors Program to help heighten RG awareness among both non-gaming employees and gaming practitioners, as well as promoting the importance of RG within the wider community.”

Melco quiz participant, Ms. Wendy Pun, Assistant Manager, Human Resources, expressed: “We have spent the past month studying for the competition, familiarizing ourselves with Responsible Gaming information supplied by the Government as well as that from Melco’s internal RG videos. This has been useful not only for the purpose of the event, but also for our professional and personal benefit. It provides an invaluable opportunity for us to stay updated on the latest Responsible Gaming material, and really helps to complement the knowledge supplied through our regular training and annual review tests received as part of Melco’s Responsible Gaming ambassadors’ team.”

Also announced were the top three entries to Melco’s Responsible Gaming Creative Video Competition, which encouraged colleagues to submit original short films with the aim to enhance public awareness. The video competition winner, Ms. Cass Tam, Executive Assistant, Table Games, said, “This has been a great opportunity for me to creatively express my Responsible Gaming knowledge and understanding gathered through mandatory learning sessions and the optional game booths which are regularly hosted around Melco’s properties. I am pleased that my film can help others identify problem gaming and understand that assistance is readily available to those who need it.”
