Mercure Canberra turns 90!

This month, AccorHotels celebrates the 90th birthday of Mercure Canberra. To mark the occasion, guests are invited to take advantage of exclusive room rates from just $90 per person, twin share, and to attend a glamourous event hosted at the hotel.The gala event, taking place on 15 September from 6pm, will make guests feel like they’ve stepped back in time to the 1920s with cabaret entertainment inspired by the era in which the hotel was created and a menu to match. Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets to the event online early as numbers are limited.

Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built in 1927 to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament from Melbourne. Today, the hotel one of eight remaining government built hotels from Canberra’s first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate. Mercure Canberra is also historically significant for its important role in the development of North Canberra and the forging of its community identity.

Formerly Olims, the hotel today is still much loved by guests for its comfortable guest rooms and ease of access to the city centre of Canberra which is within walking distance from the hotel.
