MICE Market Focus For New Sihanoukville Resort & Spa

The Asia MICE market gains a major boost in September with the opening of the 122-room New Hill Resort and Spa hotel on Victory Hill, Sihanoukville, providing numerous meeting options and sweeping views of the Bay of Thailand and overlooking Cambodia’s biggest port.

The hotel will be managed by the Asia Initiative Corporation (AIC), a senior Cambodian consortium of hotel and hospitality specialists that offers professional management, marketing, public relations, training and strategic planning for hotels, resorts, and events. The company, which was launched in July last year, currently has a portfolio of four properties including the Angkor Heritage Boutique Hotel, the Hollywood Angkor Boutique Hotel and The Bong Thom Homestay – all in Siem Reap.http://www.itcma.com/

The New Hill resort will cater for more than 500 delegates or exhibitors on eight hectares of land a $3 Romork (Khmer Tuk Tuk) drive from Sihanoukville’s CBD.  Key features will include a sky bar with world-class 360-degree views of unspoilt waters, islands and shipping.  A unique Manhattan-style bar featuring original 1960’s décor, mirrors and wood panelling will be a standout.  Plans also include numerous meeting rooms for large and small groups, and various styles of banquet and conference rooms will ensure corporate and government programs, meetings or presentations are memorable and unique.

The New Hill property will have a staff of more than 100 and will be developed in two stages:  the first has nearly 100 workers undertaking multi-million dollar renovations.

The property features a large pool, tennis court and gymnasium. Stage two will include the construction of hillside villas and behind the tennis court at the peak of the hill, a picnic, camping, team building and exhibition area will be created.

An international hotel in the area has dominated the MICE market in Sihanoukville during the past decade.  However, the opening of the New Hill Resort and Spa at Victory Hill provides delegates with easy access to local business facilities, shopping

and beaches.  It will also encourage competitive prices and bring a new dimension to the very important MICE market.

“Sihanoukville’s reputation is growing on the global market,” says Mr Seng Kha,  Director Tourism Department Sihanouk Province. “In 1991 we had just 34 rooms available for tourists.   Now there are more than 5,000.   The introduction of a second operator in the MICE market provides another dimension to what Sihanoukville can offer to NGOs, corporates and diplomatic communities,” he said.

Sihanoukville is the Caribbean or the Gold Coast of Cambodia boasting warm tropical waters, kilometres of sandy beaches and many unspoiled tropical islands. The popular southwestern city is 230 kilometres from Phnom Penh and can be accessed in about four hours by luxury bus, mini van or taxi. The town and environs is about nine k’s in diameter and boasts resort facilities as well as quality, budget-price restaurants and bars some of which stay open 24 hours.

Cambodia has four seasons. From November to February it is usually cool and dry, March to May, hot and dry, June to August hot and wet and September/October cool and wet.

“This region has an abundance of activities for the MICE market and tourists of all categories including families,” said Chanthol Each (Andy), the recently appointed by AIC as New Hill Resort and Spa General Manager.

“Visitors can visit the beaches, enjoy restaurants, bars and nightlife, visit the many islands only a short ferry ride away, enjoy scuba diving, boating, deep sea fishing and numerous other points of interest.”
