Milestones & Gemstones at Spencer Travel

March 28, 2017 Business News No Comments Email Email

It’s well-known that staff in Penny Spencer’s businesses receive a one-carat diamond to commemorate 10 years of employment with the company. Little wonder perhaps that Penny’s office culture and staff-retention credentials are legendary.

“We have a lot of long-term staff. Some years back I pondered how to reward them when they reached 10 years with me. The travel industry can be transient, so I wanted to put something in place to honour their loyalty. I love diamonds, so the Diamond Club was born. And I couldn’t be more delighted about having six members in that exclusive Club. We’ll have two more join the club later this year, as both Belinda Ward and Lynn Eaton receiving their sparkling acknowledgements.

“10 years is a huge commitment to one company. One certainly worthy of a diamond”, Says Penny.

Louise Brown, Spencer Travel’s Operations Manager received her diamond five years ago, celebrating 15 years with the company this month.

“Fifteen years at Spencer Travel – Wow! I can honestly say that, whilst I’m regularly challenged and tested and furiously busy, it really hasn’t felt like work. As Penny says in her book, Love what you do and never work a day in your life. That’s Absolutely been the case for me”, says Louise.

“Louise started with Spencer Travel at Reception, one of just seven staff at the time. She has certainly worked her way up over the years. Louise is an important part of the business and still deals with some of my original clients. I love that she has chosen to be part of the company for 15 years and her loyalty and commitment have never wavered”, recollects Penny.

This month Jennie DeCourcey, Spencer Travel’s Implementation and Project Manager, finds herself half-way to Diamond Club membership.

“Jennie’s a rare case for me. She did leave at one point for a role elsewhere that better suited her circumstances at that time. Within a year, though, the perfect role at Spencer Travel came up, she applied, and I couldn’t believe my luck. I was aware of Jennie’s many talents, and I knew I just needed her back in the business”, says Penny.

“Led by great management, Spencer Travel offers real career progression in a supportive, encouraging environment and a culture of fun. It’s a rare mix, and I consider myself so lucky to be part of it. They also know how to throw a great party”, quips Jennie.

This month there’s plenty to celebrate.
