Millennium & Copthorne Hotels plc (M&C) recently hosted contestants and film crew from the latest season of Vietnam’s Next Top Model, a popular Vietnamese reality television show.
This was part of a collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Singapore Airlines to promote the Republic to the region as a top tourism destination.
M&C sponsored accommodation for the Singapore leg of the TV show that involved contestants competing for the title of “Vietnam’s Next Top Model” and the opportunity to begin a career in the modelling industry. This special episode that will be televised in early October will see the top seven contestants from the popular reality television show staying at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel which is located along the iconic Singapore River.
The show’s contestants spent four days in Singapore competing in various modelling and fashion-related challenges. The popular show is part of a popular “Top Model” reality show franchise which has been adapted in several countries including Norway, Australia, Cambodia and the United Kingdom. The Vietnamese show is currently in its sixth season and according to STB, it is one of the highest-rated shows in Vietnam with an estimated viewership of up to 14 million viewers per episode.
“With tourism being an important pillar of Singapore’s economy, attracting tourists from around the region remains a key focus for the tourism industry here. We are delighted that M&C and Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel are part of this opportunity to showcase Singapore as an enticing and vibrant tourist destination,” said Mr Bhupesh Yadav, Chief Business and Administration Officer at M&C.
“M&C has properties located in Singapore’s key entertainment and lifestyle hubs. This partnership will allow us to work with the STB to showcase the cosmopolitan lifestyle offerings available in Singapore and give tourists from neighbouring countries more reason to visit the city.”
Mr Glenn Koh, STB’s Area Director for Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, said: “Singapore enjoys a reputation for being a leading fashion stop within Southeast Asia and STB is pleased to bolster this by supporting Vietnam’s Next top Model. Bringing this internationally well-loved reality TV franchise to Singapore provides us with a platform to reveal a fun, fashionable and spirited side of Singapore to the Vietnamese audience.”
“There are synergies between the Vietnam’s Next Top Model brand and Singapore as a destination of choice for cutting-edge retail and fashion. During this period of filming, STB is excited to work together with a group of likeminded partners and crew of Vietnam’s Next Top Model to jointly showcase what Singapore has on offer.”
M&C has five hotels in Singapore – Orchard Hotel Singapore, Grand Copthorne Waterfront Singapore, Copthorne King’s Hotel, M Hotel Singapore and Studio M – and has been a strong supporter of STB’s marketing efforts to attract regional tourists. The sixth M&C hotel, the 293-room designer hotel M Social, is set to open in the vibrant Robertson Quay precinct.
M&C is the London-listed subsidiary of City Developments Limited (CDL), listed in Singapore. Both CDL and M&C are members of the Hong Leong Group of companies.
