Millennium Plaza Dubai switches off for Earth Hour

March 27, 2018 Responsible Tourism No Comments Email Email

The Millennium Plaza Dubai, a luxury accommodation located along Sheikh Zayed Road, was in near complete darkness for a solid hour on Saturday, as the property marked Earth Hour, the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment.

The property joined other hotels and establishments in the UAE and across the globe in celebrating the annual energy conservation movement by switching off the main building exterior lighting, dimming of the interior lobby and reception lighting and turning off of other non-essential electronics throughout the hotel from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.

In addition, activities were organised including a cake cutting and a candle lighting ceremony held at the hotel’s lobby where hotel guests also participated. The candles were formed in the shape of the 60 + logo representing the 60 minutes of Earth Hour.

Nemo Acimovic, General Manager of Millennium Plaza Dubai, said: “By taking part in this movement, we are demonstrating our commitment to protect the environment for our and future generations. This environmental responsibility is part of our continued effort to conduct business in a sustainable manner. We are also grateful to our guests who actively participated in this global conservation effort.”

Earth Hour was the biggest environmental event of the year and thousands of people across the UAE turned off their home and office lights on March 24 as a symbolic show of unison for the environment along with other countries around the world.

Millennium Plaza Dubai proudly supports environmental awareness campaigns and focuses on positive actions to address environmental issues by encouraging individuals and organizations to embrace practices that will help reduce electricity and water use to protect and preserve our mother Earth.
