With less than 20 more days to go, carnival planning is well underway and mounting pressure to execute a ‘bigger than ever’ event and a memorable fifth anniversary is almost reaching a boiling point.
Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture met with the carnival organizing committee in his ministry’s Espace Building conference room on Monday 6 April to ensure everything is falling into place, answering burning questions and making important final decisions.
In attendance were members from Tanmi Production which is responsible for the production of 2015 carnival, representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate, the department of culture, police force, Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC), Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC), Seychelles Land Transport Agency (SLTA), The Red Cross Society of Seychelles, National Arts Council (NAC), and Seychelles Tourism Board (STB).
Amongst some of the points discussed were the order of events, the participating delegations, town décor, the carnival float judging criteria, prizes, entertainment around Victoria, timing and the likes.
The minister emphasized on the need for action- to get things done early and efficiently, reminding representatives present that by now all plans and confirmations should be in their final stages.
He also discussed on the new highlights for the 2015 edition of the carnival and the reasons behind the changes.
This will include a record number of Miss World 2014 contestants, gracing the Seychelles carnival, from USA, Tanzania and Australia along with the island’s very own Miss Seychelles…Another World Camilla Estico. There will also be a change in the sitting arrangement for VIPs, judges and members of press; they will this year be located on the ‘Place de La Republique’ in Victoria itself.
“We have warmly invited international press to stand alongside our local media houses to cover what has now turned into one of the most celebrated events on the Seychelles calendar. It is therefore crucial to make them feel welcome and reserve a spot especially for them, to record every highlight of this special carnival anniversary.”
“Because at the end of the day, for every delegation and every country being represented in this carnival, they seek publicity and they seek increased visibility. And what better way to showcase the beauty, uniqueness and diversity of their cultures than with the carnival parade. At Tourism Trade Fairs they all work hard to get a press interview, but at the Seychelles Carnival the important world media houses are here next to them ”, said Minister St.Ange.
For all representatives involved, the common link they shared was to ensure that Seychelles’ hosts yet another successful carnival.
During the weekend of April 24-26 one of the world’s smallest capitals will hold a vibrant, world class event and the public will simply have to come down to find out the surprises the organizing committee has in store for them.
