image003Mitte, Hong Kong’s only Osteria Berlinese, is bringing its own authentically Berlinese vibe of multi-cultural diners, creative cuisine, live music and art to the fashionable neighbourhood of PoHo – the abbreviation for Hong Kong’s creative hub surrounding Po Hing Fong in Sheung Wan.  Opened in April, Mitte is the hangout for aperitivo, casual dinner-drinks and DJ led nights out, with brunch and lunch on the way soon.

Mitte is a bar-cum-restaurant space inspired by the Berlin scene, where Italian dishes are served alongside handcrafted cocktails, rotating art and music collaborations. It is the vision of Richard McCabe, Piero Zanatta and Lars Rottmann who met in Berlin and wanted to bring a Berlin vibe, where dynamic people get together in an unfussy environment, to Hong Kong. “Relaxed, chilled, social and inspiring, that’s the Berlin we are recreating here,” said Creative Director and Co-founder Piero Zanatta. Mitte means centre, and directly refers to the central borough of Berlin. Comprising of former Eastern and Western districts of Berlin, it plays host to a collective melting pot of people, art, cultures, design and music. Mitte, the bar, the restaurant and the place is the perfect venue to socialise, to make new connections and in the spirit of discovery, try unique and niche offerings.

Mitte is designed to facilitate connectivity, inspiration and discovery through art, music, design and Italian cuisine

Located at 1a Upper Station Street, the creative corner set atop of Hollywood Road, Mitte invites diners to explore and discover Italian inspired recipes, with a particular focus on regional specialties, through two nightly dinner servings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and 8.30pm till close. Collecting a community of creative minds, an intimate complimentary aperitivo is served on weekdays from 5pm to 6.30pm, reinforcing Mitte’s commitment to the neighbourhood, as it offers a laid-back environment in which to exchange ideas and inspiration.

Prepared in a bustling open kitchen, a range of bocconi and moreish Italian bites will be available as will a selection of passionately prepared pastas, and delicious large plates for those looking for something more substantial. Fixed menu items include a selection of delicately garnished deep fried Pizzetta Fritta (HKD$58), a fresh Polpo (HKD$142) octopus salad seasoned with lemon, parsley and black pepper as well as Alice linguine (HKD$148) featuring Colatura Di Alici, an anchovy jus of cult status that originates from Cetara, a small village on the Amalfi coast.

Patrons will also be pleasantly surprised to discover a range of new and exciting cocktails including the Negroni (HK$126) and Spritz(HK$78) which are already causing a buzz, whilst gaining access to impressive art and design through “Mitte x” collaborations and the brutalist inspired aesthetic by interior designer and co-Founder Piero Zanatta. Add to all this, a stimulating weekly selection of guest musicians, electronic DJs, and it’s a senses overload.

Art, music, sex, design, small plates and big plates. “There’s a little something something for every creative appetite”, says Piero Zanatta.
