egtmedia59Mokulele Airlines will become the only Hawaii interisland carrier to fly between Kona International Airport on the Big Island and Kapalua AIrport in West Maui when it launches service on July 19.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Mokulele President and CEO Ron Hansen said passengers headed to the Kapalua Resort area won’t have to make the drive to and from the Kahului Airport on Maui, which can take at least 40 minutes each way.

Hansen said in April that the airline would increase its service to Kapalua after Island Air, which was purchased by Larry Ellison in February, decided to pull out of the market. Mokulele is also expanding its interisland fleet with delivery of two new nine-passenger Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft this summer, which will increase the fleet to nine aircraft.
