Monaco’s prestigious Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo are set to bring the glamour of Monaco downunder with the troupe’s visit to Australia performing an innovative version of Swan Lake, “LAC”, choreography by Jean-Christophe Maillot, as revealed by the Australian Ballet when announcing their 2019 season earlier this week.

Dubbed a highlight of the 2019 season, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will perform in Melbourne from 27 June to 6 July 2019, presenting a sensuous, sinister twist on the Swan Lake story.

“We are beyond excited to welcome Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo here in Australia” said Alison Roberts-Brown, Regional Director of Visit Monaco Australia and New Zealand.

“Art and culture have always been two vital parts of the Monaco DNA and this visit offers Australian audiences a rare opportunity to see one of the world’s leading ballet companies whilst gaining a unique on-stage insight into Monaco’s cultural heart” she adds.

Jean-Christophe Maillot, choreographer director of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, created a blend of neo-classical ballet and modern dance with LAC signalling its departure from tradition and its plunge into the depths of the psyche.

In collaboration with the writer Jean Rouaud, Maillot revives the torments of a story with a direct connection to our childhood fears and nightmares. These buried experiences are resurrected and combined against a Machiavellian, family backdrop used to present a ballet of contrasts.

The current Ballets de Monte-Carlo Company was created as a result of the commitment of H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover who wanted to continue the long tradition of dance in Monaco.

On tour for over 200 days a year, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo is a major culture ambassador for the Principality.

Tickets are available via purchasing a 2019 Season Package between now and January. Tickets to the specific season of Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be available in late January.
