China Southern Airlines (CZ) welcomes the official start to their new Melbourne flight schedule, following an increase in demand from the capital city.
The MEL-CAN-MEL service is now 18x per week – up from twice daily – with an additional morning service CZ610 from 6th December 2015 to 1st March 2016.
The newly added flight CZ610 Melbourne-Guangzhou service will be every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and is operated by A330-300 with 30 business class seats and 243 economy seats on board.
To launch the flight, China Southern Airlines and the Melbourne Airport Corporation partnered on a major awareness campaign across billboard; all with the objective to entice Melbourne to fly the Canton Route; not just to Guangzhou but on to 190 destinations in 41 different countries.
Mr. Louis Lu, China Southern Airlines Managing Director Australia & New Zealand said, “Melbourne is an important route for China Southern Airlines, we have great confidence in the Victorian market and our joint marketing efforts with the airport and tourism board are seeing fantastic results.”
The Hon John Eren, Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Victoria said, “I am delighted to see China Southern Airlines expand its commitment to Victoria with its latest increase to 18 services per week from Guangzhou to Melbourne over the busy December 2015 to March 2016 period. As the largest carrier of traffic from China to Victoria, China Southern Airlines plays an integral role in boosting tourism and trade from Victoria’s largest international source market. Chinese tourism now accounts for nearly $2.1 billion in tourism expenditure for Victoria, larger than Victoria’s next six largest markets combined.”
Since the introduction of the 72-hour visa-free transit, Australians and New Zealanders account for almost 40 per cent of travellers taking advantage of a stopover in Guangzhou.
“Victorian’s love to travel and China Southern Airlines has the most developed route network anywhere in – and outside – Asia. Our service is one of high quality and exceptional hospitality but also provides an affordable way to travel. The flight service increase will serve as an extremely important link in connecting more passengers travelling from Melbourne to China and the rest of the world,” finished Mr. Lu.
China Southern is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, giving it a global reach of 1052 international destinations in 177 countries and regions.
The announcement of the Melbourne service was accompanied by another new route between Guangzhou and Rome via Wuhan. The new services will run three times a week and start on December 16th 2015.
