More snow, more lifts, more terrain and LOADS more fun

41cm of fresh snow has fallen in the past 48 hours at Hotham in the height of a storm that is expected to carry through and bring more snow until Tuesday. Snow is still falling and hasn’t stopped since the storm began late in the evening of Friday night.

The resort has been completely transformed into the Winter wonderland everyone loves with 23cm falling in just the past 24 hours alone. Today more lifts and more terrain have been progressively opening across mountain including the Village and Heavenly Valley chairs.

Hotham spokesperson Gina Woodward said, “We’ve been blessed with super cold conditions hovering near -6 degrees. Beyond the amazing natural snowfalls, the snowmaking teams have been in action thanks to ideal weather conditions.

“Since early yesterday morning they have produced more than 28,000 cubic metres of snow which equates to 2800 truckloads of snow. Snowguns are still firing out snowflakes now, assisting us to establish a snowbase across the mountain again.”

The current snow depth is 51cm in snowmaking areas and measures 40cm in natural snow only areas. Snow has fallen as low as Hotham Airport overnight and the nearby village of Dinner Plain is also snow covered.

“This is the storm we have been waiting for and, whilst it’s been a long time coming, it’s great to finally kick the season off in true Hotham powder form,” said Ms Woodward.

A number of visitors have made their way to the resort over the weekend to see the new snow and those arriving today for the week are in for some great conditions including more snow and then sunshine from Wednesday.

Hotham General Manager Belinda Trembath noted that the Imagine ski run on Heavenly Valley was the pick of the day with fantastic grooming achieved overnight by the grooming team who are working hard to smooth out the new snow, both natural and manmade.
